Fashion Fab: Custom Reaper Hoodie

Hoodie-zipped-small.jpg

(This is the first in a series of gamer fashion related articles I hope to do. If you have pictures or tips on some Gamer fashion you want to send in, please feel free to email me at pixelpoet@gaygamer.net)

What do you get when you give a GayGamer a gift certificate good for adding his own custom graphics to a hoodie at a professional graphics transfer studio in San Francisco? You get a geeky tribute to a cherished game that is too good to be true. Thanks to an awesome birthday gift, some heavy thinking on my part, a fantastic graphic artist, Matteo, and the graphic apparel design store My Trick Pony, I now have an homage to The World Ends with You that I can carry with me everywhere I go.

It actually was a fun and creative process making the hoodie. I first got to pick out which type (light or heavy) of hoodie to use, and then which color (mine a lovely sky-blue). I then sat down with Matteo, the Ringmaster at My Trick Pony, and we went through some of the sample images I brought with me of the game. I already knew that I wanted to put reaper wings on the back of the hoodie, since I loved the tribal style and form that the wings had in the game. Using his mad photoshop and illustrator skills, Matteo made some great tribal reaper wings that we printed out and transferred onto the back. I even got to make some glittery accents to the wings using the glitter transfer material they had on site.

Next up we looked through some other images from the game and settled on making Mr. Mew, the adorable plush cat from the game, part of my hoodie. I quickly decided that he needed to be in the pocket and when I found out that one of the transfer materials they had was a felt-like material, I knew we had to make a nice brown furry kitty for my pocket. We even cut off his tail and stuck it on the outside of the pocket to make it look as if it were poking out from inside. The best part is I got to micromanage and tape all the graphics exactly where I wanted them to be before Matteo super heated them onto the hoodie.

The end product you can see in the pictures below that some nameless Dolph Ludgren wannabe is modeling for your viewing pleasure. I have yet to make my own Player pin from the game to attach to the front of the hoodie, but I can only do so many crafty things at one time. Overall, it was a blast making the hoodie and customizing it to have my gaming love gushing all over it. I was also blown away by the fact that there was a local store, My Trick Pony, that made it easy to customize my own hoodie here in San Francisco. They took it from idea to design in a little over an hour, and I didn't have to mess with photoshop at all. I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help out anyone else in the Bay Area that wants to customize their own apparel, from hoodies, to t-shirts, to underwear. Plus, getting a gift certificate there for a creative gaming loved one is really a great present; I know it was for me.

Now with my hoodie I can unleash noise on unsuspecting patrons of San Francisco or maybe just coax a few guys into petting the furry Mr. mew in my pocket, all while being GayGamer Fashion Fab.

OMG, I hate you! I love that hoodie. WEWY is an amazing game with little to no merchandise for fanboys 'n' girls to drool over and show off. Good for you!

... there's no way for me to get one of those, is there?

Your pictures are distracting. While adorable and fantastic, I could help but think of removing the hoodie. Not to mention those very well-fitting pants.
