Konami Gamer's Night '09: Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams
The one game I was looking most forward to seeing at Konami's Gamer's Night, Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams, was unfortunately not on display for hands on. They did however give a short presentation on the new SH title which will be releasing on the Wii. Turns out it will be a re-imagining of the original Silent Hill. NOT a remake as they were sure to stress to us, but a re-imagining. Everything has been redone form the ground up, including the character models. For instance, Cybil, SH's awesomely lesbian-ish, leather clad motorcycle cop is a much more subdued looking brunette with a soccer mom like hair-do. Harry Mason's new look includes glasses and a cell phone which will act as all the game's menus.
But character models differences aside, one of the really interesting things about Silent Hill: Shattered Dreams is the use of the Wii controls. The nunchuck will control your movement while the Wii remote becomes the ubiquitous SH flashlight. Just point your remote in the direction you want to look and you can even pull in close up on something with the press of a button. It seems very immersive and looked quite fun. The Wii remote will also act as your radio, with radio static coming through the speaker, warning you of encroaching monsters.
The regular UI has also been done away with in an attempt to keep the player from being pulled out of the story. All in game menus and such are now incorporated into Harry's cell phone which will allow you to access your map, make calls, record messages and even take photographs. In an interesting twist, the camera can even take images of memories and impressions left behind in certain places. Continuing with the theme of player immersion, loading screens have been done away with as well, so when you open a door to a room, you walk right in and can even take a peek around with your flashlight before entering.
I can't wait to get some actual hands on time with this game as it looks like it will be quite a lot of fun. Everyone I spoke with afterwards seemed very impressed by it, even people who were not necessarily Silent Hill fans. No release date has been announced yet but we'll be sure to let you know as soon as we find out. And for all you non Wii owners, Silent Hill: Shattered dreams will also be coming to a PS2 and PSP near you.

Yay! Cybil still has boobage! I am not sure I like the new character models...I miss the demented looking pale people from previous games. But at least Cybil looks good!
Being a huge Silent Hill fan and a Wii owner I couldn´t be more happy: they´re got a lot of nice ideas to reboot the series. Team Silent tried that with Silent Hill 4:The Room but the result was not that good...Let´s hope for the best! Now, I just need a trailer and some taste of the soundtrack...

I'm so very excited for this game! I absolutely cannot wait. This'll be the best SH ever, I hope. (At least the best since 4, which I'm the only person who liked.)
It's sad that Cybil looks a bit more Palin-esque, but somehow still looks she's could pull off that hot dom lesbian thing.
I am a huuuuge Silent Hill fan and I am VERY excited about Shattered Dreams! This only mentions the WII but it's also for the ps2 and the psp.
