Video: Marvel Vs Capcom 2 Remake Finally Official
It's official, after several leaks and a teaser countdown site it was Marvel that finally posted the reveal trailer: Marvel vs Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes is coming to Xbox Live Arcade and PSN. And while the trailer has some excellent over-the-top fanservice fighting action, aside from the mention of online multiplayer (woo!) and the ambiguous release date of "Summer 2009" it's a little slim on details. Well don't worry, there's more to tell here.
Those hoping for new HD art may be disappointed. Instead of using redrawn sprites like the recent Street Fighter II HD remake, Marvel vs Capcom 2 will retain the original character sprites. To help pretty things up there will also be a pixel smoothing filter that you can turn on, which thankfully looks much better than what Sega has been using for HD Genesis ports. The backgrounds on the other hand will look significantly better than past versions of the game. Capcom originally designed the 3D backgrounds at a higher resolution than consoles and arcades could handle at the time, and is bringing back those never-before-seen higher resolution backgrounds for the remake.
Feature-wise the online multiplayer will function essentially the same as Street Fighter II HD Remix, with both ranked matches and the option to watch fights in progress while waiting to take on the winner. Tournament mode unfortunately didn't make the cut for Marvel vs Capcom 2. Marvel vs Capcom 2 also shares the networking code with Street Fighter II HD Remix, so any problems or praise you have for that game's online mode will carry over.
Rumor has it that another new feature will be access to the full roster of 53 fighters unlocked from the first time you boot up the game. Personally I liked unlocking each character, and trying to get the characters I wanted for the lowest price, but after doing it twice already now (both on Dreamcast and on PS2) I can appreciate having access to all of the characters right away. Maybe costumes and soundtracks will still be unlockable for those of us that still think that unlockables are fun and rewarding (I can't be the only one, right?).
Look forward to Marvel vs Capcom 2 coming to Xbox Live Arcade for 1200 MS points and PSN for $15 sometime this summer. PS3 fans can get a taste of the action a bit sooner though with a demo coming this Thursday. Sorry 360 fans, no demo this time.

*Squeals like a high school girl*
Ahem.... I mean....
Hell yeah!!!
Woohoo, I'm super Excited! Time for me to pull out the old Servbot to kick some ass!
*gasp* another Servbot fan?!?!?! I mean, I shouldn't be surprised considering that he is clearly the best character, but it's still rare to find. I shall battle you online, and our Servbot battles shall be epic!
I'd prefer Marvel vs SF over Capcom (some of those none-fighting charas seem rather broken), but since my Original XboX version doesn't spin on the 360, this will be my first official game to own from the universe. It's hot sex!
your blog is very nice
Time for the Proton Cannon and Final Justice to released once more on those SF loosers.
