Duke Nukem Forever Developer No More?

Duke_Nukem.jpg

Well it looks like the game that's been over 10 years in the making might be the game that never will, now. Turns out that yesterday that 3D Realms, creators of the Duke Nukem franchise, unexpectedly and abruptly closed up shop on the studio. It came as such a surprise to many that some were thinking that it might just be a PR stunt for the studio; however, one of the webmasters at the company posted in the forums that: "It's not a marketing thing. It's true. I have nothing further to say at this time."

Turns out that the self-funded 3D Realms was having some financial troubles recently (which can be said of many companies in this recession) and since Take-Two was only a publisher for the studio, 3D Realms had only investors to rely upon. Take-Two was quick to send out a press release stating the fate of other Duke Nukem titles in development by other studios:

Deep Silver and Apogee Software are not affected by the situation at 3D Realms. Development on the Duke Nukem Trilogy is continuing as planned.

I actually know a few people that work(ed) at 3D Realms, since I grew up in Dallas, and it's sad to see that the whole studio shutdown, and so suddenly. It looks like the state of Duke Nukem Forever is sadly one that will never see the light of day, but then again I'm sure a few of you had already placed bets on that happening a couple years ago. I just hope your bookie still pays up.

You know what? When they announced that there was "A Lot of issues & a lot of World of Warcraft" People stopped caring.

The game is just flat out cursed.

Hmmm any developers we WOULD like to see go under? That's the company that should pick it up next.

Shame about the shutdown though. Best of luck to the former crew at 3D Realms.

I don't care about Duke Nukem so much as Prey. It was a surprisingly excellent shooter. 3D Realms was working on the sequel, and now it's probably not happening, which makes me sad.

Dammit, I was hoping that Duke Forever actually would come out and be fucking awesome.
Maybe it can live on as a full conversion mod for Unreal 3 or something (I'd rather see it use Source, though).

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
