FreeRealms Gets Carded
Last week the online multiplayer title FreeRealms launched. Sony Online Entertainment (San Diago) spent a lot of time creating a family friendly, social networking game system that is pretty much an amalgamation of everything anyone under 16 years of age enjoys. At least, the "statistical" ideal for that age group, anyway. Is it good? Who knows, you can always give it a try at their webpage should you feel so inclined, but it does require a Windows PC.
Now, the game has launched and you're happily enjoying your $4.99/mo subscription fee. But, where can you get the goods? Starting this week players will be able to go to their local Target, pester their parents for pocket change and pick up cards, boosters and starter decks, for $3.99 and $9.99 respectively. The cards themselves are a real world analog to an in world card game. Not only this, but the packs will also feature special cards with codes redeemable for in world items. There are approximately 180 cards in the series.
If you like CCGs are are just really into MMOs, I'm sure this thing is right up your alley. Personally, I already burned enough of my income and youth on Magic: The Gathering. Darn you Wizards of the Coasts!

Oops, the boosters at target are 1.99, not 3.99. It's a horribly fun game to play though, and I am squarely targetted on the card game.
Seriously, it's a FREE game if you don't want to pay for it, even the card game is free to get into. You simply won't get all the flashy bells and whistles of the full game until you throw down 4.99 for the subscription.
