Is This The PSP Go?

psp-go.jpg

The new PSP rumors have been floating around so long at this point, even Sony's getting tired of waiting to confirm the thing. How else can you explain the next episode of Qore going up early, and revealing a few of the system's secrets to subscribers who happened to be really on the ball.

First, the system is smaller and more portable than the current PSP, and has 16GB of internal flash memory. The UMD slot is gone, as predicted. It also has bluetooth capabilities, and is made for sharing content with the PS3, but you can also "tether it to your cell phone," which actually sounds a little scary but potentially cool. They also make clear that the PSP Go is not replacing the PSP 3000, which will stay on the market. We'll see how long that lasts. Some games mentioned and or shown during the presentation are Jak and Daxter, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, and LittleBigPlanet. I assume the games will be available for all PSP systems, and not just the Go, but this isn't specified. Check out a (really bad quality) clip from the episode after the break.

I'm sure there will a lot more to hear about the device, but at least now we finally know what it looks like and most of what to expect. Appearances aside, I'll need to know how this thing feels before I can say I'll be planning an upgrade. I mean pretty is important, but for something I'm going to be holding for hours at a time, ergonomics wins.

Downloadable is exactly where the portable market is going, but I was hoping for analogue stickage.

It looks like there is one, next to the D-Pad.

The analog stick looks to be in a very, very awkward position to me. I also wonder if you can download through the PS3, I don't have wifi.

I....don't like the design of this machine. I was actually hoping the redesign would get me on board. 16 GB huh...hmm.

How big is a UMD? How fast am I going to run out of room for games?

@thepickupbear Full downloadable games on the PSN now usually run about 400-600 MB. That being said, I highly doubt I'll be getting the go simply because I really use UMDs. A lot. Movies, games, the works. I actually have a couple albums on UMD.

so... no more UMDs... wtf?? what about the UMDs ppl already have? how about the l and r buttons... i sense awkwardness.

They should have put a second analog stick in the depression where the start and select buttons are, and moved those buttons to the space above the depressions.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
