Patapon 2 Launches Today! Sort Of...

Alright Patapon fans, the day we have been waiting for has finally arrived! Patapon 2 launches to today in all its rhythmic glory. It arrives in stores today in a slightly different form than your used to. The retail version will come with packaging and a guide book, but no UMD disc. Instead it will come with a code that will allow you to download the game to your PSP via your PC or directly from the PlayStation PSP store. Note that although you can purchase the code now, it will not be redeemable until Thursday when the PSN Store updates. If you don't want to clutter your house with all that packaging, you can wait until Thursday and just download it directly.
It seems a bit odd that they are releasing one of their major titles in a digital format only. It does however lend credence to the rumors that have been circulating about a new PSP that will no longer make use of the UMD drive. And we all know about pre E3 rumors...
I've been playing a preview version of the game for a little while now and I can tell you it is well worth the $20. The addition of a multiplayer mode and richer character customization add to the already engaging game play to create a much deeper experience. It comes highly recommended with the GayGamer seal of approval!

Does anyone know by any chance how this will address the issue of piracy, if at all?
Or are we just assuming that the next iteration of the PSP rumored to come this year will be pirate-proof?
By the way, I totally dig those GamerNook.com ads. I was wondering where I could find myself some girl gamers to hook up with...
Oh wait a minute...
Haha Pirate Proof, Dreamcast was Pirate Proof, DVD was Pirate Proof and Blu Ray was Uncrackable.
For a few days at least.
I hate this forcing of digital distribution, you should be able to have a physical copy, there's no reason other than for Sony to control everything you "buy" from them.
I have to say I'm one of those that prefers the physical media. For one, I don't like filling up my little memory card with downloadable games--then I have to go by memory. More importantly, I'm very visual about deciding what I want to play. I look at my shelf of games to trigger what I want to pursue.
It's sort of like deciding which pron you want to watch by just reading the names of the movies--you gotta see the cover art to decide if it's worth your time ;)
This direct download onto your system thing only works with Steam because your storage device is a hard drive.
However with a PSP, you're stuck with Sony's Memory Stick, which is way more expensive in comparison to any hard drive on the market today.
2 Gig memory stick goes for retail around $25.00. A 80 gig internal hard drive is around 40 bucks, just 15 dollars more for 78 more gigs than that stick. Lets go to the more accepted memory card, the SD card, you can get a 2 gig SD card off of Newegg for 7.
My point is thus, they might be trying to do the same thing Steam and others do, but unless they're willing to cut down the price of their PSP memory cards or go to a more accepted memory card like the SD Card, the direct download only strategy is going to fail.
I recall reading about the possibility of a new card format...
