E3 09: Little King's Story

little_kings_story_01.jpg

With the game due to be released in North America on July 24, XSEED was proudly showing off some footage of Little King's Story for the Wii at E3. As a little boy who finds a crown that lets him make people do his bidding, you basically enlist followers to help you build and defend your kingdom. It's a city-building sim, but with a decidedly cute angle to it. The graphics are adorable, although I have to admit I found the soft-focus filter used to be a little off-putting. And even though it looks cute, I have no doubt that later in the game, the sim aspects would mess me up. I'm not good at sim games. I do love the recruiting technique, though. Everyone has different skills that you can use in different ways, and you can get anyone you want to join your posse by simply asking. Of course, when you recruit someone, it kind of looks like you wink at them and a little sparkly star shoots out. It's very cute. There's a gallery of paintings in your castle and you can view the artwork that you find in various locations throughout the game. There was a contest to create a monster for the game and while the winner got to have their creature featured, 100 fan drawings in total are featured in the gallery. Little King's Story has already gotten good reviews since it was released in Europe in April, so if you're into kingdom-building sims, you might want to keep an eye out for this one when it hits the States!
