E3 09: Miyamoto Hints At New Wii Zelda MotionPlus Support

While Miyamoto was mysteriously absent from Nintendo's E3 press conference yesterday, afterward the Nintendo icon had held a roundtable event of his own. Most of the time was spent on expanding on the details revealed about the games that were shown in the press conference. For example, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is said to have around 80 levels! But even more exciting is that right before he opened the floor to questions, he made mention of a new Zelda game in development for the Wii.
Specifically, he talked about the new Wii Zelda in terms of how MotionPlus will be implemented. "Think of Zelda while you're trying some of the archery and sword play in Wii Sports Resort," Miyamoto said. He went on to suggest that MotionPlus may be required to play the new Zelda whenever it arrives.
Miyamoto did also show off a piece of concept art with an older looking adult Link, though that image hasn't been revealed for the public. Considering that it took over a year after the first Twilight Princess trailer for the game to come out, I'm not holding my breath for the new Wii Zelda anytime in the next year, but it's very exciting to at least know that it's coming. I guess we'll just have to pick up Wii Sports Resort in the mean time for a preview of the new MotionPlus enhanced combat.

If they offer a Gamecube or Classic Controller control scheme for this new Zelda, then I'll get excited. I hated the controls for the Wii version of Twilight Princess, and ended up buying the Gamecube version instead.
