Scribblenauts was, hands down, the best DS game I saw at the show. This adorable puzzler combines cartoon graphics and situation-based puzzles with writing, of all things, to create a truly original kind of game.
Say there's a cat stuck in a tree. You've got only your internal lexicon to get that pussy down. Whatever you write (and I do mean whatever - this game has everything) will drop from the sky. Write "ladder" to solve the puzzle in a conventional way, and climb up to rescue the kitty. Write "tuna fish" to lure the beastie down. Or write "jet pack" to fly up and save her yourself.
The game's start screen is a sandbox of word fun: the lovely 5th Cell dev demoing the game to me challenged me to think of anything ("ANYTHING," he said) and summon it. I summoned a lion, and then a zebra, who ran away from the lion - who decided to chase it. I summoned a wyvern, a warp drive, and a spleen. On the friggin' start screen. Think Cartoon Network meets The Incredible Machine meets Mad Libs.
There's no release date yet, but I offer my personal guarantee that DS owners and wordplay fans will reap endless enjoyment from this adorable scribbly gem.

This fills me with childlike glee. I would probably spend the first three hours with this game just trying to think of different stuff to see if it works.
