Sims 3: Pirated Two Ways From Sunday, Still Tops Charts In Sales

I'm going to say that I don't really care for The Sims. I don't like telling people when to poop, shower, have sex, or perform other inane daily tasks that anyone with basic self-sufficiency should be able to do. Seriously, what kind of living creature can simultaneously hold down a job as a brain surgeon, and not know when it's time to drop a deuce? I, however, am not in the majority.
People freaking love The Sims 3 Bloomburg has reported that it is one of the most heavily pirated titles ever, hitting 180,000 illegitimate downloads between May 18th through the 21st. That's a lot of piracy for 4 days, especially considering the game was not even officially launched.
Now, a lot of analysts would state that this hurt sales. I'm sure in some hypothetical, if that never happened sorta way, EA would have better sales if piracy simply did not happen. You know what though? They didn't even need to worry about it. The game has hit record sales since it's launch. Since launch, The Sims 3 has reached 1.4 million legit units sold during it's first week. This is an obscene amount of change.

You might like this one though as it (imho) successfully shifts the focus from the hour to hour tasks of bathroom/sleep/shower/social to more long term decision making.
like.... where shall I poop a month from now?
I bought The Sims 3 last week.
IMHO they forced the developers to release a half-baked game (which was already delayed).
There are quite a few bugs reported in the game and if you google around plenty of people complained about their computer crashed, including myself.
For those who are not dying to play The Sims 3 just wait before buying until they released a patch, hopefully before the end of the year.
I honestly was one of the people who pirated it. But the reason I pirated it was that I had heard many people complain their moderately nice hardware wasn't able to run it (mostly in Amazon reviews). Before I ran out and dropped $50 on it I wanted to make sure it would work on my current hardware. It did and within 24 hours I went out and purchased it at the retail store...
I haven't downloaded this at all, I've taken and wll continue to take the stance of supporting the stripping of DRM from any games.
That said, the complaints about bugs are enough to keep me away for a few months, I was stung with Fallout 3 and it's 8 months to rectify quad core support properly, I refuse to fall prey again.
I will buy it in time however, definetely.
I pirated it, I'm still going to buy it though. The extras they featuring in the disc (New town, and 1000 sims points) are totally worth the buy. I'm hooked, this game is totally worth my 50 simoleans.
