Videogame Name Etymology Study Reveals Interesting Origins

It takes a special breed of geek to be both obsessed with videogames and word etymology, and I'm thankful that Drew Mackie with his blog Back of the Cereal Box is one such geek. In what must have been a labor love love, he has compiled a very comprehensive study, appropriately titled It's a Secret to Everybody, of videogame character origins, covering characters from franchises such as Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Street Fighter, and many more. Want to know where the bear-wrestling bear Zangeif gets his name? Did you ever wonder what the name of the Duck Hunt dog really is? Want to know about the connections between Final Fantasy and Dante's Inferno? Well this is where to look.
While it is by no means a complete list of every videogame, it is by far one of the most robust out there. Like I said, it takes a special geek to find this kind of thing interesting, but for those that do like it, it's just too awesome not to share with all of you.

I may be a special breed of geek, but today I’m also a happy breed of geek to see something I did linked to on GayGamer. I’m honored.
OMG this is incredible! thanks for doing the list and for letting us know it existed!!!!
