Weekly Xbox Indies - 6/19/09

lights end.jpg

Seeing as how Microsoft is changing the name from "community games" to the much more fitting "indie games" I thought I should probably change the name of the weekly feature. Only 4 new games were added this week, but quality definitely makes up for the lack of quantity. And after the wealth of games that were released that last few weeks, a lighter load is much appreciated.

Yay

  • Light's End - 200 MS points. Not many developers are ambitious enough to put a multi-hour epic adventure game in the community games. And even more rare is to have one with such an innovative gameplay hook. In Light's End you can switch between pretty much any character you meet, which leads to some excellent puzzles as you discover which characters need to interact with each other to advance the game. The fact that the story in the game is top notch helps a lot too, as does the excellent soundtrack. For 800 MS points you'd be getting your money's worth, but as it is only priced at 200 points, it's an absolute steal.

Ay?

  • Sushi Bumper - 400 MS points. A fun 4-player game of keep away, where each player is fighting for a single piece of sushi. But as much as it is fun, I can't help feel like it would be better suited as a mini-game in a bigger game as opposed to having it all on its own.
  • Bobby Says - Dance With Me! - 200 MS points. Essentially this is a classic memory game like Simon. It is nice that this version has a multiplayer mode for up to 4 people to test who can last the longest, which can actually lead to some pretty fun and heated multiplayer competition.

Nay

  • Math Aerobat - 200 MS points. Yet another attempt at math edutainment from the developer of Math Sniper 3D. This attempt is a bit better than his last, taking the form of a side-scroller as you control a bi-plane to fly through clouds that hold the correct answer to a given math problem. It's all very monotonous though. At least the old edutainment, like Math Munchers or Math Blaster, had some enemies to make it more game-like and fun.
