Video: Bayonetta Effects Are Important
The developers at PlatinumGames have proven something that a lot of us take for granted: Special effects make the game. High quality models, textures, baked lighting, and properly skinned animations sure do help a lot, but when it all comes down to it without a little razzle dazzle games look really flat. Don't believe me? Check out this little video comparison cooked up by our favorite displaced Grasshopper Manufacture developers.
What you are watching are two (nearly) identical scenes. The first (displayed above) is a scene taken from Bayonetta with all it's special effects still in tact. Beautiful right? Well, hit the jump and see what the game looks like without all those post-rendering filters applied. It almost makes me okay with the brown/bloom realism that seems to plague modern games. Hey, at least it looks better than doing nothing at all

How come I've never heard of this game? It looks exciting. Then again, I think any game starring a saucy minx with a gun and a high kick is exciting. Yes, I like Charlie's Angels.
At First, I was turned off by the blatant misogyny in the trailer, but then I came to realize how high camp it is.
Bayonetta may become my next favorite inadvertantly feminist sexualized icon since Lara Croft (of TR1)^_^
