Video: Old Republic Gets Verbal

Well I think as we all have seen in the past few months, being verbal is very important to BioWare, whether it be talking about being gay in the Star Wars universe or having their upcoming MMO be fully voiced over. Granted, one action resulted in EA sponsoring the GLAAD panel this weekend, the other is the focus of the video above.

As BioWare announced a few weeks back, they plan on making all parts of their upcoming MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic have a full voice script. With how much dialog and interactions that go into an MMO, this is no simple task. In the video, various members of the team explain why they decided to take this route with the game, and how they plan to accomplish it. If you watch the video closely, you can also see a dialog selction wheel similar to the one used in Mass Effects. You'll also see a number of scenes from the game in action, both from combat and from conversation.

It'll be interesting to see just how much control you have over your own character's voice, since if the main character voice pool is small, once you come in contact with other players, you'll find that you have a number of people that can mimic your voice. Although, just having that is a step up from most MMOs out there today. People seem to be more than content with the generic male/female voices for all races of WoW.

I have to admit, this video is getting me even more excited for The Old Republic, even if it still is a long ways away from being released. If there's one company that can pull off putting this much dialog, character, and action in a game, it definitely is BioWare.

I guess the folks there at bioware have never seen games like EverQuest II where there's VO for much of the game. Don't claim that no one's done something unless they REALLY hadn't.

Wow, never heard of this game until now and it looks like it is going to be awesome. I loved KOTOR so hopefully this will match it!

I loved Kotor and so far I am thinking this game will be a 'must get'. As for the VO, yes but they often recycled voices in old games, like for example Oblivion where a character was talking to another character about a potion shop owner...all three of which had the same man's voice. What Bioware is doing is making everyone have 'their own' voice, meaning that you will most likely not see a 'recycle' process going on with the voices.

Plus the whole 'alignment' system sounds fun and the ability to choose who your companions are and who you fall in love with are a real boon.

I'm really looking forward to this game! I love Star Wars! This video actually offers more in-game footage than their others too. :)
