Brütal Legend Demo Will Rock Your Socks Off Early

EA and Double Fine have announced that gamers who are having trouble waiting until the October 13th release date (October 16 in Europe) for Brütal Legend can get a little taste of what the game has in store by downloading the demo via Xbox LIVE or the PlayStation Network. In the demo, you awaken as Eddie and have to learn how to use the powerful ancient axe "The Separator" and electrifying guitar "Clementine" to unleash combos that will destroy the demons of darkness. As you encounter enemies like zipper-faced nuns and devilish druids, you'll also team up with Ophelia, your ally and potential love interest. Oh, yeah, you'll also get a vehicle, "The Deuce" which can be upgraded with weapons and armor throughout the game.
"We just couldn't wait," said Tim Schafer, President of Double Fine Productions. "Villagers have surrounded our offices with torches, demanding the game. So we're releasing a demo and hope that this taste of metal will keep the mob at bay until Brütal Legend comes out this Rocktober."
The demo will be available starting in September, but it's going to have a staggered release. I couldn't get any specific dates out of them, but it turns out that it will be available first to anyone who pre-ordered the game at GameStop, then about a week later for Xbox LIVE Gold members, and a week after that, the rest of the Xbox LIVE members and PlayStation Network members.

Isn't the main purpose of a demo to convince people to buy the game? Why release the demo early to people who have already decided to buy the game?
