GamesCom 09: Mass Effect 2 Story Details

BioWare today revealed some new plot points for the next chapter in the epic space opera, Mass Effect 2. Once again playing the heroic Commander Shepard, players will lead their crew on a suicide mission in space. You'll select each member of your team, all of whom will have a direct impact on the direction of the story and the squad's chances for survival. Of course, since they're calling it a "suicide mission," I'd wager the chances for survival should be pretty slim...
"The Mass Effect trilogy is an epic, action-filled saga with consequences that will carry through from chapter to chapter," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, Group General Manager and Senior Vice President, Electronic Arts, and co-founder and CEO, BioWare. "Building out a diverse and loyal party is one of the features that makes the Mass Effect series quite unique. The characters Commander Shepard recruits are not only pivotal to the storyline, but essential to the player's overall success."
The first new character revealed was the assassin, Thane, announced back at E3 in June, and now the second potential teammate, Grunt, has been announced. Grunt is a "violent and unpredictable Krogan fighter" whose "unsurpassed physical strength" will make him a worthy addition to your team "if he can be tamed, and if he can be trusted." Sounds like fun!
Thane and Grunt are just some of the various "mystics, geniuses and convicts" that Shepard will choose to assemble into a team to discover why humans are vanishing from the galaxy. The success of the mission hinges on the squad recruited and their loyalty to the mission, so make sure you pick the right ones. Mass Effect 2 is due out for the Xbox 360 and PC in early 2010. (Which, as far as I'm concerned, is much too far away!)

I just wanna say that Thane is damn sexy looking. Mmph!
ME was one of the BEST gaming 'experiences' I've had. The story was just so DAMN good. That's what I really look for in games, a good story. I mean, gameplay has to be good but the story is whats most important.
Needless to say, I can't frakn' wait for ME2.
