Video: Fable 3 Revealed, It's Good To Be The King (Or Queen)

It looks like the wait for Fable 3 won't be nearly as long as the wait for Fable 2 was, as Peter Molyneux announced the new game at Microsoft's Gamescom press conference. In fact, Fable news was the entirety of Microsoft's press conference.

In addition to the short teaser trailer, several details about Fable 3 were shared. You begin the game as the son or daughter of your hero from Fable 2. Because of the direct connection between Fable 2 and Fable 3, your Fable 2 save file will come into play impacting the game world and how people perceive your character right from the start. The first half of the game will encompass your character gaining followers to start a revolution and overthrow the current ruler of Albion. The second half of the game becomes a bit trickier, as you become the new king or queen, and must decide which of the promises you made to your followers will be kept, and which will be broken.

The world of Albion will be under the influence of the industrial revolution this time around. New technology will be springing up, and as ruler it will be your duty to decide if Albion will take the path of tradition or progress. The industrial setting will also be used to highlight the difference in wealth and poverty of the regions of Albion under your control.

Most of the gestures from Fable 2 would not be appropriate for a ruler, so they have been replaced with a new "touch" system. Shaking hands, holding hands with loved ones, hugging, and pulling people along by the arm are the new norm, making your rule over Albion a very touchy-feely one. There will also be a judgment mechanic allowing you to determine the guilt or innocence of anyone, and punish or reward them accordingly.

Family will also play a big part in Fable 3 with an emphasis on raising your children. This has me a little worried that the series' signature gay marriage acceptance may not carry over into the third iteration. Unless the ability to adopt is added, but no word on that yet.

Fable 3 is slated for a 2010 release, so it must already be fairly far along in its development. Will it deliver the emotionally charged experience that Peter Molyneux promises? It's hard to tell, but I can't wait to find out more.

See this is very annoying from the get-go.
It matter little that Molyneux let me be gay in Fable 2 when with Fable 3 he's just gonna say: "Hey sorry, but canon dictates that you were straight or bi all along. Here's a kid we force apon you."

I really hope you guys will speak to him about all this when you next get a chance to interview him about Fable 3.

Nexus: In Fable II, you and your same-sex husband or wife were able to get a child in some roundabout manner. Surrogates and sperm-donors and such. I tried to divorce my second husband instead of paying the blackmail note and so they both left me and I never got around to having chilluns, but I'm pretty positive you can.

Anyway, woot! I can't wait for yet another Fable game! Hopefully it won't be four years this time.

Um, I never got any children with any of my male partners (and it wasn't from lack of trying) and I've never read anywhere that you could in any shape, way or form.

I find this to be good news. I also have to put some faith in Mr. Molyneux...he's shown himself to be quite gay-positive and progressive in a business where the patrons' main insult is often "that's so gay". I really enjoyed the first two Fables, and the new one sounds intriguing. I hope we get to go to Samarkan! I also hope they put in the option to adopt as well...not that I even want any little brats, but the option would be nice.

*Inserts foot in mouth.* Hm, it appears to be another one of those times where I am completely wrong. Whoops! Anyway, I don't really care either way. It's a fair sight above most games in the gay-friendly department with or without medieval alternate parenting options.

I'm pretty excited for this game to come out. I loved the first two, so I have high hopes for this one.

While nobody can be 100% certain of anything, I would place my bets on a form of "adoption." Knowing Fable's sense of humor, it would not surprise me to literally have a stork bring a baby to our castle.
