Video: XNA Game Dust: An Elysian Tail Is Gorgeous, Also Furries
I've mentioned before my affinity for beautiful 2D animation, and so I was instantly drawn to the newest trailer for Dust: An Elysian Tail. I'm not much of a furry fan myself, but you don't have to be to appreciate the care that went into this animation. Dare I say, the hand drawn animations may even top Odin Sphere and Muramasa. And this is from an XNA game developed by a single person*!
Dean Dodrill, the developer of Dust, has recently submitted it for entry into Microsoft's 2009 Dream Build Play competition. Previous Dream Build Play winners include Dishwasher: Dead Samurai and Blazing Birds, so there is a chance that if it does well it could become an XBLA title. Regardless of how it is eventually released, whether by XBLA or as an Xbox Indie game, Dust: An Elysian Tail looks to be an amazing side-scrolling masterpiece.
*Ok, so actually one person and 2 composers. But still, one person doing all of the programming and art for this? Amazing!

I'm definitely looking forward to this when it officially drops. The animation looks incredible and the gameplay seems right up my alley.
Comming from a furry, it's nice that for once, one gaming site didn't make such a big deal about the so called "furry" appeal to this game like so many other gaming sites that bring this game to attention. It was getting.. tired.
The animation and soundtrack made every hair on my body stand up. Not to mention I'm a furry which makes this even more interesting!
It does look beautifull.
I hope it'll get a European release as well. I'd hate to miss out on this.
As for the furry thing. Are people really making a big deal about this? In videogames? There have been tons of games with furry characters.
From way back with games like Psychofox to more recent games Ratchet & Clank. Not to mention plenty of anthros in RPGs and Fighters.
Nevertheless, I'm a furry too. So I do appreaciate that aspect of the game.
Beautiful! Hope I get to play it someday.
Yeah... what they said. ^ Wow.
To be honest, I haven't bought any Live User-Created Games, because, well, let's be honest, most gamers aren't and won't be good game designers. I assumed it was a bunch of drivel. But this, I'd SO buy this if it was given a Live release!
It's great that 2D / Sidestroller games are making a comeback of late [I know I can't wait for Muramasa come Crimbo] - I just hope that DKC can make a return someday soon [so I can forget the Bongos tripe ever happened].
Lastly, if you tag this as 'furry bait', why not with Sonic and the dozens of other anthropomorphic animal starring series? I ain't offended or anything, was just mildly curious.
I have GOT to get this! I can't wait for it to be released.
Fantastic.

I guess that the way I interpret "furry" isn't just as any anthropomorphic animal. I always thought of furries as a mostly human form with animal characteristics, like ears/tail/nose/etc. That's what the characters in Dust: An Elysian Tail look like to me. Sonic characters I think of as the opposite, where they are animals that have some human characteristics.
That's just the conception that I had. I hope that I didn't offend anyone, as that was not my intention at all. I'm very sorry if I did, and will change the title if people want me to.
But you really should check out some of the user-created Xbox indie games. May I suggest Solar, Hexement, Light's End, Groov, Trino, and Puzzwords for starters.
@NaviFairy
Considering I'm the only one who brought it up [and I honestly wasn't offended, just intrigued, as the furry community is well trolled on the interwebs], then I think you have nawt to worry about with the title and that.
Hmm, Solar and Light's End jumped out at me at those,once I beat Lost Odyssey [I've only had my 360 for afew months now, and its the last game I've yet to finish], then I'll try and check them out - if this ain't out by then. xD
No offense taken.. it's just getting extremely rediculous how badly the fandom has been knocked as of late.
Yes, it has it's issues, but I love it warts and all. You'd just think that from one group loving just about all things geeky, the gaming community, much less every other geek community could see just how ironic their mocking and outright disdain can be. Seems like high school all over again.
This game looks amazing! That's some freaking awesome animation. I must have it.

What do you think anthropomorphic means? It means humans with animal characteristics like anime cat girls. Furry is a slang word that means "anthropomorphic fan" like a fan of most saturday morning cartoons.
@Danielle
Actually, no. Anthropomorphic means attributing human characteristics to other things.
In the case of the furry community, that pertains to animals.
Most anthros in the furry community are of the more animal than human variety.
There are a lot of the human with tails and ears too though, but it is a bit of a subgenre. These are called kemonomimi in the 'business' btw.
