Aardman Counting Down To Christmas With Flipnote Studio

wandg.jpg

DSi owners already know that Flipnote Studio, the free DSiWare animation program, is pretty awesome, even if most of us have zero talent and will only ever end up using it to make a bunch of squiggly lines and crudely drawn genitals. To show us that the program is capable of much more, Nintendo has enlisted the Oscar winning studio Aardman Animations to create short Christmas themed videos using Flipnote Studio, and will be publishing them on Flipnote Hatena.

Aardman is best known for their stop motion animation, including the Wallace & Gromit shorts and feature films. The man behind the Flipnote shorts is Tim Ruffle, a "rising star" at the company, who described his experience with the software:

I had a lot of fun making these. Flipnote is so simple to use that it's easy to make short, fun animations - but there's a surprising amount of features there too, meaning you can make your creations more complex as your confidence grows. Budding animators will find this a great way to get creative!

Exclamation point! The videos will be available for everyone to view on the Hatana website, but DSi users with Flipnote Studio installed can download them to their DSi to watch over and over again. The videos start September 16th with "The Sandwich Twins" and a new one will go up every week until Christmas. I don't know if it will necessarily convince anyone to pick up the new system, but it's a nice move to show off one of the better reasons to get a DSi.
