Fantastic Flash: Canabalt (UPDATED)

canabalt.png

There is a cute little flash game that has been circulating the office since last week. My general rule is if I'm still playing it a week later, it's likely something that is good enough to pass on to friends, family and other victims people of interest. Canabalt is a simple game that has one goal: escape from a crumbling city.

The best part of this game is there is really only one action: Jump. Hitting anything will almost certainly guarantee your imminent death. Boxes and chairs litter the tops of buildings which slow down your character slightly, providing you with a means of reducing the pace of the action slightly, but can also result in you falling just short of your next building and, you guessed it, plummeting to your death. It's quite a simple concept, and amusingly is also a very interesting demonstration in futility. There is no escaping death.

Simple and amazing, this game will also be released on the iPhone. No word on pricing but it is likely we will see it within a few months or so.

Update: I forgot the link to the game! Canabalt
