PAX 09: Pixel Poet's Panel Of Plenitude - The Video

Well PAX 2009 has come and gone, and only the memories remain. Well the memories and any incriminating evidence that was caught on tape. Luckily for everyone that wasn't able to make it to our panel at PAX, we recorded the whole thing and have enlisted our fearless leader Fruit Brute to edit and post it here ( and after the jump) for all to see.

The panel altogether was a little over an hour long, and had four of the best panelists speaking on it, namely: myself, Gameboy (aka Chris Schroyer), Matt Marquess from Sparkpr, and Helen McWilliams from Harmonix. Unfortunately Tiny Dancer became sick right before the event and ended up having to stay in NYC, but otherwise the show went off without a hitch.

A brief overview of the panel is such: We start off introducing the panel and finding out why everyone decided to show up to listen to us. The panelists introduce themselves and give a brief background in what they do and where they've worked. We then share a few of our finer and not-so-fine moments working in and out of the industry. After that we shed some light on what it's like to be "non-standard" in the industry and whether or not it's a hindrance or an asset. At the end we discuss how we made it into the industry and what tips we have for people trying to make it in the door themselves. For the last 20 minutes we open the floor to questions.

Now that's the overview, but there are plenty of juicy morsels to be found in the dialogue, such as:

  • Who was a sex phone operator before working in the game industry?
  • Who got to work with Lady Gaga as part of their job's activities?
  • How many GayGamers cry out in anguish when they hear Tiny Dancer won't be there?
  • Did the name of the panel really draw in people?

All of these questions and more await you. There are 4 segments to the panel, and the first one is posted up top, be sure to click the "Read More" button below to see the other three segments.

Thanks again to all those that participated and to everyone that showed up, we really had a fantastic audience.

Thanks again for such a great panel! Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know that the people working in the industry aren't facing the rampant homophobia still present in the internets and the gaming community at large.

I can answer the questions without even watching since I was there! It was a great panel and would be sad if Gaygamer's presence wasn't there next year.

Answers, just cause:
1. Helen Mc-Awesome-Williams
2. Matt Marquess
3. A lot.
4. Yes! Some straight guy didn't seem to get the title until a fellow gay explained it. Silly straight guy.

Yay. I cried out in sympathy at the same time from my sickbed... it was a transcontinental chorus of tears. And an awesome panel, thanks for the vids, the work, and the title, Pixel and Game-Boy!
