Video: Red Steel 2 and Wii Motion Plus
This interview with Red Steel creative director Jason Vandenberghe was posted over at Wii Folder. Vandenberghe talks about the new Wii Motion Plus and how it's dramatically improved the accuracy in Red Steel 2 over the original Red Steel. As you may already know, Red Steel 2 is the first third party game to only work with Motion Plus.
He talks about how, even though the Motion Plus is capable of 1:1 movement tracking, they decided against making Red Steel 2 a 'sword fighting simulation'. His reasoning being that most people aren't very good sword fighters, and an accurate sword fighting sim would probably not be very fun. What do you think? Personally, I prefer stylized gameplay over realistic simulation.

Anyway... I was disappointed with the first RedSteel but this one looks like it will be much better. I wonder if requiring the MotionPlus will help or hurt sales for this game.

Ummm that lead game designer is yummy and I rarely say that lol I watched this thinking bla bla bla your the Lead game designer... oh yeah you were talking about red steal right... uhuh uhuh uhuh what were you talking about (drool). lol on a serious note Red steal 2 looks great I like the overall art design.

Exactly. I assume because it comes with the MotionPlus that it will be at a slightly higher price than the average stand-alone game. Some consumers may view this as a more affordable option and others, that just see the higher price-tag and/or don't care about the MotionPlus, may just pass the game over completely because of the cost.
It would be nice if all Wii remotes just came with the MotionPlus from now on.

You have a point about the price. According to the GameStop website Red Steel will be bundled with Motion Plus for $60 and sold as just the game for $50. Now, GameStop isn't always the most reliable source when it comes to release dates, but they know money and usually get the pricing right. Amazon.com seems to agree on the pricing on 2 different SKUs.
It'll be interesting to see how that will impact sales. Other games that have been similarly bundled in 2 SKUs with Motion Plus, like Tiger Woods, benefited from it but didn't require it. Red Steel requires Motion Plus, so selling it without one included is a bit of a risk. Then again, Wii Sports Resort sold pretty well, so there may be enough of the Motion Plus out there to make 2 SKUs work.
