TGS 09: Attendance Slips In 2009
Attendance for the Tokyo Game Show dropped for the first time in three years this year, with almost 10,000 fewer attendees this year than last.
The four days of TGS are broken down into two groups: the first two days are for business attendees only, while the last two are open to both the public and the business crowd. The loss in attendees came primarily from a drop in attendance on the third day - although from the numbers, that drop didn't come from "kids" - maybe business attendees are taking the first public day to go shopping for funky socks in Harajuku instead?
Overall, 185,030 people attended this year's TGS, compared to 194,228 in 2008 and 193,040 in 207. Relative to the whole it isn't an enormous margin, but a nearly 5% drop in attendance still seems significant.
