The Wii Price Drop Is Probably For Sure Happening Sept. 27

Nintendojo is reporting that in a conference call with retailers, Nintendo confirmed that the North American Wii price drop to $199 will happen on Sept. 27. This gels with the various scans that have popped up over the last few weeks from the major retailers advertising the change, and means that Nintendo is definitely looking to boost sales during the busy Oktoberfest shopping season.
There's no word how this might affect prices in other territories, nor when the announcement will be made to the public, but once it hits it will mean Nintendo will once again be at the bottom of the pricing scale, matching the price of the Xbox 360 Arcade. Do you think this price drop will mean a fourth straight Christmas of impossible to find Wiis, or have they finally hit a saturation point?
Wii Price Cut Confirmed [Nintendojo]

Wii hit saturation point with [I]52 million[/I] sold in my honest opinion, and so I also believe that this price cut won't cause another major sales spike.
No console will ever best the likes of the DS [handhelds generally] in sales, since they just can't match the accessibility etc. that only they can have.
PS360's could still sell a few more thousand each [though they'll never catchup with the Wii's install base], but Wii sales will slowly diminish over the remainder of this year and the next [despite various deemed 'system seller' titles across both periods] methinks.
What saturation point? I think 199 is a magic number for products. Something about the number will drive people to buy it who otherwise wouldn't have considered it before. I doubt we will have a Christmas of hard to find Wiis but they will be a popular item under the Christmas Tree.
