Video: Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep TGS Trailer Surfaces
After years of missing out on a new, full Kingdom Hearts story, gamers are getting two in as many years: following closely after the DS release of 358/2 Days, the world expounds in widescreen with the release of Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. According to the above trailer, Japanese gamers will be uncovering the history of the Keyblade Wars as early as this January, while the Anglophones among us must likely wait until later next year.
Birth By Sleep is set in the expansive multiverse to which longtime fans have become accustomed, this time 10 years before the events of the first Kingdom Hearts. The story follows three characters with their own playable storylines--Terra (who looks like Zack), Ven (who looks like Roxas), and Aqua (who looks like Aqua)--as they fulfill their individual duties under Master Eraqus (who looks like Tokugawa) to become rightful Keyblade Masters and protect the Princesses of Heart. This new trailer specifically shows off more of the story, as well as some new game mechanics such as Shoot Lock spellcasting and the new Command Board, a boardgame-esque distraction available at save points which can be played to unlock special events and grant characters bonuses.
And for anyone who might feel bewildered upon hearing Tinkerbell or Stitch talking to them in Japanese, cast off your confusion! A fan translation of the trailer is available after the jump (courtesy of kger1324 over at the GameTrailers forums).
There is no coincidence in fatePersonally, I haven't caught up with a Kingdom Hearts game since hitting a wall in the the second one on PS2, but these new story and character reveals are firing me up to go back through and see what I've missed. For a series originally based on throwing Disney and Square characters together in a multiverse with time and memory distortion, it seems they've managed to weave a fairly consistent and intriguing plot so far.[Land of Departure]
Aqua: There is a world somewhere out there that has a tree with star-shaped fruit, they say that those fruits are a promise to keep people connected. And they also say that if you have a good luck charm made from the skin of those fruits, no matter how far apart you are you'll always come back together someday. So here's one for all of us! It will keep us connected.
Eraqus: Now we will begin the Master Qualifications Exam. This is a test of the heart for those who have been chosen by the keyblade. Fortunately, Master Xehanort has come to see this.
[Neverland]
Tinkerbell (wait, she doesn't talk does she!?): I'm gonna kick you as hard as I can!
Ven: Is that Mickey's star fragment?
Hook: Looks like something that you wouldn't think is a shooting star has come our way [Sorry, I hate this line. This is a terrible translation of it, but I'm just not in the mood to deal with Japanese weirdness!]
[Castle of Dreams]
Terra: You must make your heart strong. No matter what happens, if your heart is strong you will be able to overcome it.
Aqua: Is it alright if I try on the glass slipper?
[Dwarf Woodlands]
Ven: Hey, you dropped this.
Queen: If you listen to my request, then you may ask the mirror the whereabouts of this Xehanort.
Ven: Surely not Terra!?
Doc: That man used a monster to attack Snow White.
Aqua: What happened here?
Doc: Snow White, she...
[Deep Space]
Aqua: Watch out!
Ven: Do you know Terra and Aqua!?
Stitch: Friend... bonds...
Stitch: [???? can anyone tell what he's saying?]
Ven: What happened?
[Gathering Place ?]
Ven: What do you mean Terra will no longer be Terra!?
Vanitas: I mean it exactly as I said it. The "existence" known as Terra will soon disappear.
Ven: Keyblade...!
Vanitas: Show me your strength...
[Land of Departure]
Terra: Master Xehanort, what should I protect?
Xehanort: What you have been. You don't have to rid the darkness in your heart, you should control it.
Aqua: Terra won't fall into darkness.
[Radiant Garden]
Even: I think I might have some sort of connection to you in the future....
Dilan: What business do you have here!?
Aeleus: You cannot enter the castle!
[Gathering Place]
Xehanort: Look. The ruins of many keys who took on the powers of their masters are here in the place, where there was a fight between light and darkness. The remains of the Keyblade Wars.
What do you think?
Stunning new KH: Birth By Sleep TGS Trailer [The Lost Gamer]

I'm excited for this game! 358/2 Days didn't really get my interest, but this game looks like a return to KHII's battle system and a much more interesting plot. I also want to see how the new trio is related to Sora, Riku, and Kairi, especially since on of them is a dead-on look-alike for Roxas.
Tinkerbell didn't speak until recently. A new Tinkerbell movie just came out where she has speaking lines, so Disney probably allowed Square Enix to give her dialog too.
Dangit! I wanted this game before, but now!? A Stitch world!? (Might be old news.) Now I don't know if I can resist blowing a hot chunk of change on a PSP. Curse you, Square Enix!!
HOLY SHIZ,
!--SPOILERS--
Based purely on the translation of this video, I get the idea that Aqua, Terra, and Ventus become Kairi, Riku, and Sora. "The 'existence' known as Terra will soon disappear," and it will be reshaped as Riku.
Going off of that, it suddenly makes a ton of sense that Sora's Nobody would look exactly like Ventus, and Axel (who looks like a tweaked version of Terra) would be Riku's Nobody! Kairi's Nobody should logically resemble Aqua if that logic follows, but Kairi's heart is special in that it was separated from two bodies (first Kairi herself when her heart was transferred to Sora, then from Sora when he gave it back to Kairi), which is why she has two Nobodies!
Awesome trailer. Though getting a PSP for this one game [maybe Leco Roco, or whatever that was too] isn't really a good thing for me to do. No matter how much I love KH...
SPOILERS:
Josh Bourgeois, those theories died a long time ago. (Trust me, you aren't the first to think these things.)
For one, Terra, Aqua or Ventus (it's in a trailer and I can't really remember which) SEE Sora and Riku, as it's only set ten years and the past and both of them are old enough to go to school. You can't become something that already exists.
Second, Axel is not Riku's Nobody. His Somebody is named Lea or something.
Third, the more popular theory is that Terra becomes what we now know as Xehanort.
