Character Creation: Playing God With Polygons
I'll admit it. I am one of the many addicted to character creation. I am also one of those who will lament over the avatar creation screen as much as skill trees or weaponry. He or she simply has to beautiful! Soul Calibur 4, Fallout 3, City of Heroes. There were times I would boot each game with the sole agenda of playing dress up with my "dollhouse" of creations. Here is my Dragon Age: Origin's Mage Class: Bronx mixed up in some of my own impromptu "fan fiction". I think it's a bit comical that he looks like a Disney prince compared to Fereldan's butter faced denizens. I found this game's creator to be much easier to manage than the others mentioned. What are some of your favorite character creators and games linked to those favorite creations?

All those guys' body types are exactly the same! When are they going to include body types in character creation, or at least randomize body types? There's definitely different types of built, because there's a ton of good looking pecs and abs that don't look all like those.
The first time I played Oblivion I probably spent close to 45mins making my characters face perfect!
Now whenever I buy a game one of the things I wonder is if there going to let me "make" my character.
Amusingly enough, my roommates tend to be pretty frustrated by my fascination with any game's character creator. They're always eager to see the hot new game I brought home, and then they get to sit through my fiddling with sliders and hair options for half an hour--and that's assuming I don't change my mind about whether I want to play a boy or a girl this time!
And if you're in the room when I click 'Create New Hero,' well... I hope you brought a book.
The Sims 3 has always fulfilled my desires to create the perfect man in my game. Granted, it's cartoony, but hey, I'm a geek after all. I get aroused watching my character make out with Zevran.
Oblivion took me a lot of time, too. And Age of Conan. And I'll regret for all the rest of my life that I was impatient and started to play with Mass Effect the first moment I put it in the Xbox and now I'm stuck with the default Sheperd character for Mass Effect 2. :) Not that he isn't good-looking, no. But I could have made him so much more handsome!
I love pretty much any character creator. Making all kinds of diverse looking characters.
WoW, Champions Online, Aion, Age of Conan, Guild Wars, Pirates of the Burning Seas,...
I love them all.
I do often get a problem with facial sliders though. Often when I try to go for a look, it won't turn out how I want and their face gets all distorted.
But when I get it right and I make a really hot character, I couldn't be happier.
I absolutely love games that let me customize my character.
Fable 2 is one of my all time favorites. Fallout 3 is another great one. There's also Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and the Sims 3.
I was caught by surprised with Saints Row 2, it has an amazing and robust character creation engine. My character not only looked the way I wanted, head to toe, but had a walk animation of my choice, and a pretty good voice--though the selection was one of three.
I'll love character creators when they allow me to make proper hair length. Shoulder length just isn't cutting it.
I absolutely love avatar creation too. Spend way too much time on the look of my Dragon Age characters. But the lack of different body types makes me a sad panda... need more bears!
Am I the only one who thinks of Spore whenever epic character creation is questioned?
Don't get me wrong, I love me my loinclothed men in Dragon Age and finaly being able to make a full blown tranny in Saints Row 2... But...When it comes to customizing your own character, nothing beats Spore.
Oblivion is kind of king in this respect, in my opinion. Mostly because, in addition to sculpting a face and playing the ethnic crayon game, you can implement player created mods to get pretty much any look you like--and my characters come out pretty hot. I found the realistic body mods jarring at first (I took the pants off a fallen foe and was REALLY SORRY WE COULDN'T WORK THING OUT!). But after that, I was hypnotized by my character's running butt and didn't really care about the full frontal corpses littering the countryside.
I think Saints Row 2 is one of my preferred customizations based character games, even though taking that very character into the multiplayer arena sucks majors ballz...Grand theft auto's Gay Tony version is quite fun as well, you can't completely customize everything but these choices they give you are alot hotter than the previous editions. Even Def Jam Vendetta fight for NY on ps2 was ahead of its time with creating your character with name brand threads, jewelery, tats, voices, facial hair, body type, fighting style ect....only thing missing was being able to create a female fighter. A nice balance was Soul Caliburs 4 i thought
