Video: Spike TV Video Game Awards Mystery Game Reveal

Well, to help promote their Video Game Awards next month, Spike TV is passing around the trailer above teasing us with the notion that an upcoming 2K Games shooter will be revealed during the awards. The video gives the hints of the game taking place in a desolate, war-torn and futuristic Dubai. That setting basically rules out Bioshock 2, but doesn't close the door on just about any army-based shooter.

Luckily some folks have done some digging since the release of the teaser, and found an ad from August 2009 for an upcoming shooter in works by 2K that is very similar to the teaser footage which is an update of the older series, Spec Ops. That's right, the old PC and PlayStation shooter series is finally getting remade, and sources say that Ken Levine's 2K Boston studio looks to be the developer behind the game. Could this be the game that he was touting as 'substantially more ambitious' than BioShock? Could be, then again it could just be another FPS clone that will sell well in spite of a lack of story or polish, but that's just teh jaded gamer in me talking.

I guess your best bet for finding out the truth is to watch the Spike TV Video Game Awards, but then their advertising has truly won. Or you could just read the news blurb we will post about it the next day on the site (that's what I'll be doing).
