Rumor: Ubisoft Requiring High Scores For Early Copies Of Assassin's Creed 2?

German game magazine Computer Bild Spiele is reporting that, in order to get a review copy of Assassin's Creed II in time for publication in the most recent issue, Ubisoft had some specific criteria. From a web preview of the article (translation by WeAreTheInternetz):
Our reviews are tough, but fair. We will not give up our independent scores for the sake of a timely review. This holds true for "Assassin's Creed 2″. The publisher asked us to guarantee the score 'sehr gut', otherwise we would not receive a review copy, thus we will publish our review in next month's issue. We'd be more than glad to give the game a 'sehr gut', but only if it deserves it.
Sehr gut literally translates to "very good" and would be considered the equivalent of an 'A' range score in another publication. Ubisoft hasn't commented on the claim, and no other publications have corroborated the story, but unfortunately it's not unfamiliar or hard to believe as review scores become a growing part of the marketing message for high profile games. With the release a little more than a week away, reviews should be coming out soon, and even if the game is amazing, with this rumor they may end up under heavy scrutiny. Hopefully the game can stand on its own merits, and this story won't taint any scrupulous publications.

Considering how boring and repetitive the first one was, I'm not holding my breath for something amazing with the sequel.
Incredibly over-hyped and this rumour is probably true. Depending on the reviewer's reputation, of course ;)
Wouldn't surprise me; Ubisoft is known for this kinda crap. They stopped giving EGM preview data and review copies because they wouldn't promise high reviews in exchange for content.
If I remember right they were also involved in a huge flap at Gamespot also, so to me it's not surprising.
