Weekend Deal: Mass Effect For Ten Bucks!
Not ready to dig into Dragon Age this weekend but still in the mood to play a Bioware game? You're in luck! The folks over at Steam often have great games at discounts on weekends. This week it's Mass Effect, last year's amazing space RPG starring Commander Shepard. The price? Ten Dollars, at least for the weekend. Normally it would cost you twice that to purchase this gem. So if you haven't had a chance to play Mass Effect yet, consider this the perfect time to get it. (or gift it to a friend)

Good deal. Too bad, however, they didn't spend a great deal of time making the game scaleable on the PC platform. I guess this is one of my pet peeves: companies who outsource their games to third parties for PC development. It almost always results in poor performance on the PC and little to no options (massive resolution choices, multiple LOD levels for models, textures, particles, shadows, etc). It seems that more often than not, console devs just don't get what a game on a PC should look like. They're used to developing for a set standard and don't think about the needs of a wide variety of hardware setups. Too bad really. I think the only company that really gets it these days is Capcom. I'm running a 256 mb Geforce 8600m GT (laptop version) and my God, SF4 ran beautifully with pretty high settings.
A great deal.
The game looks pretty good on my 8800 GTS system and is even playable (but lowres) on a laptop with an 8400M.
While I HATE (*HATE*) the cutscene -> now fight parts, the game managed to entertain me so far.
