EA "Reinvents" Medal Of Honor

Well, it looks like the runaway success of Modern Warfare 2 has inspired EA to tinker with its Medal Of Honor franchise. Today they announced that the newest game in the series will be done by a new development team and feature a new hero in a new setting far removed from the games' WWII milieu — Afghanistan. Of course, they're just calling the new game Medal Of Honor, so don't get confused. It'll introduce the Tier 1 Operator, "a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle." The dev team has reportedly been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Ops community to ensure the most authentic modern war experience.

"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war," said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. "We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."

The development team at EALA will be hard at work on making the single-player campaign the best it can be, while the multiplayer expertise of EA DICE is being called on to make sure everyone plays well together. I don't know. As much as I feel like the WWII shooter was pretty much played out, I'm not sure I really want to play something set in the modern day, either. It's a little too real for me. The box art here is for the PS3, although the website shows an image that has it stacked on top of an Xbox 360 case as well as another non-descript one I'm assuming is PC. The press release doesn't mention specific platforms, but EA usually covers all the bases. Heck, this'll probably show up on the iPhone, too!

So it's aiming to differentiate itself from Call of Michael Bay: Modern Explosion Porn, then?

The MOH games have always leaned more towards realism. It seems they're going back to basics in a way, as the first game was about your main character being a lone operative behind enemy lines in WW2, and this one is about a super-skilled specialist soldier in an enemy country.
