IPhone/IPod Touch Deal: Cobra Command For $.99

cobracommand.jpg

Right now (but probably not for too much longer) the just released iPhone/iPod Touch remake of the classic laserdisc game Cobra Command is on sale for $.99. The description claims that the discount is 90% off the regular price of the game, although it was selling for $4.99 when the game launched earlier this week. Either way, 80 or 90% off, that's hard to beat.

Despite the name, Cobra Command has nothing to do with GI Joe's villainous collective . The game was originally released to arcades in 1984 as a laserdisc-based rail shooter, where you control the guns of a helicopter shooting down enemies. The iPhone version is a faithful recreation of the original, adding touch controls and some motion elements. The animation is still gorgeous, as with most laserdisc games, although unlike the cartoon-y Space Ace and Dragon's Lair, Cobra Command has more realistic, anime-type visuals. They've added unlockable "achievements" and an online leaderboard, but the game is really about the retro appeal. As a result, it's pretty unforgiving even on normal difficulty, so if you want a challenge, you've got one.

Like I said above, the sale probably won't go on forever, so don't wait. You can buy the game through iTunes at the link below, or though your iPhone or iPod Touch (if you've got a wireless connection - the game is over 250MB).
