On The Horizon: Darksiders Takes On (Literally) Post-Apocolyptic Metroidvania
With all of the big games hitting this holiday, and the arguably bigger ones pushed back to early next year, Vigil Game's Darksiders hasn't received nearly the attention it deserves. And why should it? Upon glancing at most trailers and gameplay footage, it could be written off as just another action game to compete with the likes of God of War 3 and Bayonetta. But that is not all that Darksiders has to offer, so the developers put together a video to talk about the game's main feature: a classic Metroidvania style adventure game.
Adventure games of that kind and quality are a rare breed in games today. Batman: Arkham Asylum borrowed from that style of gameplay with huge success, and, though it feels somewhat like cheating to mention it, Metroid Prime 3 of course brought quality in full force. But for the exploration and item collecting adventure gamer, more is always a welcomed treat. And if the folks at Vigil Games can deliver on their ambition, then Darksiders might even be offering some stiff competition for an early game of the year contender.
And, if you happen to like Devil May Cry-style combat and potentially blasphemous religious interpretation, well, then that's just icing on the cake. With the release of Darksiders quickly approaching, January 5, we'll soon know if Darksiders can stand up to its promise.

Yay, an upcoming game I'm actually excited for!
