Rumor: GoldHeart And SilverSoul Coming March 14 With Pedometer

Screen shot 2009-12-14 at 5.50.31 AM.pngAmazon recently posted a listing for the American version of Pokémon GoldHeart and SilverSoul. Assuming the listing is accurate, it confirms two pieces of information that have as of yet been unconfirmed for the American version of the game: It will be released on March 14 and include the Pokéwalker accessory.

The Pokéwalker accessory seems similar to the Chao Adventure VMU game from Sonic Adventure, where you could transfer guys to a small Tamagotchi-like device for portable training. The player can transfer a Pokémon to the Pokéball-shaped Pokéwalker and gain 'watts' by having enough (real life) foot steps sensed by the built-in pedometer. The player can then spend 'watts' as tokens to play minigames where wild Pokémon can be battled (via a simplified battle system similar to the shell game) and captured, and items can be found with the item finder. The player can wirelessly trade items and Pokémon between both the DS game and other Pokéwalkers.

Adding an attractive peripheral to encourage purchase over thieving it off the net? Nintendo you clever shew.........No dice, I'm trying to gain weight.

OH BOY!! The EXACT SAME GAME they've been making for the last DECADE AND A HALF, this time with another new CHEAP GIMMICK!!!

Sorry for the angry response, but I can't think of a franchise as guilty as Pokemon for taking their success and using it to trick consumers into throwing them more money instead of actually improving on their product.

Or instead of being ignorant of the game's many improvements with each itteration, you could just keep your mouth closed until you know what you're looking at.

Because sure, you look at a screen shot and it looks the same, but the game has changed in so many fundamental ways since the beginning, it's barely even the same game.

Gold/Silver was the best in the franchise but it's entirely dated compared to the new games, and I'm glad to see it get a make-over. I'm quite excited for it.

And as a side note, if you have no care for this, why even post here? You're an ass, that's why.

Not to mention there's a ridiculous amount of changes and extras in this remake, which you could have looked up in a second. There's a ton even if you *don't* consider the already massive gameplay differences between, say, Crystal and Platinum

Far more worth it than the Fire Red/Leaf Green remakes if you ask me

Did you read Fruit Brute's article from earlier in the day?

Nintendo actually confirmed the March 14th release date...

All I know is that the games differ substantially and that it's "set your facebook profile pic to your fave Pokemon month."

As someone who is still going to buy the game when it comes out, I will actually support naruhodo on this. The formula has been essentially the same through all four generations.
Red and Blue really aren't that different from LeafGreen and FireRed. Improved graphics don't count, cause its a given that any remake should have those. After playing Pokemon for over ten years myself, I would love to see a NEW generation (not a remake) that had a much more in depth story line. Instead of the usual, go to gym 1, to to gym 2, go to gym 3, ...go to elite 4, with just another generic Team "evil" to fill the gaps.
I'm not sure I can come up with a good way to change the game off the top of my head, but then again, its not my job to. The game designers have had over a decade to come up with something, but they always opt out and made the same game again with different actual pokemon.

...yes, I am done ranting now, and yes I am still going to buy the game. But I'm gonna be grumbling about it the entire time, haha.

Wow, a game mechanic that works being updated with a different story, setting and features? No, gamers would never want that in a series. What gamers want in a sequel is a fundamentally different experience in each sequel.

Yeah, right.

That the fundamental game and story progression of pokemon is the same is why it sells so well. What was so different from Halo to Halo 3? I'd be surprised if the kinds of changes from Halo to Halo 3 were very different from the kinds of changes from pokemon red to pokemon ruby. If anything, the biggest complaint one could make about heart gold/soul silver is that they aren't new games, rather old games with new features on new hardware, which, considering one of the fundamental mechanics of pokemon is the interoperability betweeen the different versions, is kind of critical to the franchises' progression.

Hey, here's just my thoughts, the next version of pokemon will run on a ds or a dsi, but have extra features on the dsi. So that it can still have all of the backwards compatibility with the gba games, but incorporate new features only available if you have the new hardware, thereby forcing players to own both a ds/dslite and a dsi/dsixl in order to get all of the features in the game. I can hear the ranting already...

Why do I post here? Not because I'm an ass, but because it frustrates me to see such squandered potential and complacency in the game industry. I'm allowed to have my opinion, and I was polite, so it's just amusing to see people go all fanboy-rage on me xD;

I played my boyfriend's copy of Pokemon Diamond, so I am aware of the changes that they made to Pokemon over the years. Don't assume I don't know what I'm talking about please :3

In my opinion, the "improvements" they've made to pokemon in over 13 years are not enough. The graphics, while colorful and marginally better, are still crap for a game that can afford to have top notch production values.

The gameplay is still the exact same kind of battles, with minor improvements, but just as slow, archaic, and uninspired. I found myself turning off the battle animations just to find any way to make the battles go faster.

The story is EXACTLY the same as it's been for over a decade, where you start out at your mom's, you have a rival, you get a pokemon from a prof, and you go to gyms to become the Pokemon Master. Absolutely no creativity or inspiration there.

If you want to give money to a company for making barely enough changes to a decent game boy rpg from 1996 to trick people into thinking it's a "new game," then by all means go ahead and do it. If you enjoy the "new" games, then that's great.

But, this is just my opinion now, it isn't enough for me. I don't want to play the same game with minor improvements over and over. I liked the original pokemon and I would've liked to see it blossom into an even better game, and I think it's a real shame that it still hasn't gotten anywhere new and exciting.

naruhodo said:

For a concrete example of how they could improve the game, why not overhaul the battle system? It can still be turn-based and pokemon can have the same abilities everyone knows and loves, but they could make it fully animated, with real backgrounds, and much more fast paced and exciting.

Why do they have the static battling from 1996 when they could have something amazing like The World Ends With You's battles or fun like Rune Factory's battles? (Those are just examples, I'm not saying Pokemon's battles should be exactly like those games)

Bearfamily said:

Why dont they make a 3D one that ISN'T just cut scenes of Pokemon preforming abilities and only looking like they are attacking each other?

And use the Wii's online functions to create rooms for trading and battling?

Its not Rocket Surgery.

I believe that a Pokemon game like that would be too successful and make Nintendo too much money, and Nintendo is holding back so as not to completely destroy the already fragile world economy. Imagine if Nintendo ever actually made a Pokemon MMO. Work productivity the world over would cease, countries would be ruined, families forced to sell their children into slavery (or trade for other children as inspired by Pokemon) in order to survive. It would be total chaos. They don't release the same game with minor tweaks because they're lazy, they do it because they care.

On a more serious note, I wouldn't mind the same old Pokemon formula if they added one feature that I remember from the Pokemon TV show that has never appeared in a game. There was one episode where a guy trained his sandshrew to swim and partially overcome it's water weakness. Why can't I do that in the game? Why can't I train pokemon in specific environments to enhance attributes associated with the environment's elements. Training in a volcano should gradually increase a Pokemon's fire resistance, while surfing for water, forests for grass, etc. Maybe even training in different environments could lead to different evolutions (watershrew?). Each species of Pokemon should have a limit for how much they can improve that way, but in a game centered around evolution it seems odd that the Pokemon are so resistant to change.

Bearfamily said:

You know NaviFairy, some of what you said may not be so far fetched and would possibly ring though into reality if you think of how far some people have taken MMOs before :S

Murder over ingame weapons, didn't some parents forget to feed their kid or something too?

Pokemon Online could truly be the end of the world.........OMFG THE POKEMON MMO IS COMING OUT 2012! IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

Randy Marr said:

I guess that was fairly nerd-rage of me, and I do apologize. I've fallen into the pit of getting super defensive over a game I like. More so because I truly feel that the franchise has gone under-appreciated by most media and a large number of folk.

But here's the thing: what are you really expecting from a sequel? They've made the games bigger and deeper (lawl) with each iteration, and while the base concept is the same... well isn't that why I liked Pokemon to begin with? I don't feel that the quality of the series has gone stagnant, although it's harder to defend a remake. But I also like remakes because I liked the original game, but it doesn't hold a candle to the new generation.

I'm just saying if we're going to call bull on people making "the same game" there are far worst offenders out there. Instinctively I want to call out folks like Modern Warfare 2, but I haven't even played it (mostly because I didn't like the multi-player aspect. :/ I'm a TF2 guy) so as far as I know, hardcore MW2 fans will be be pleased with many changes, but on the surface it will be mostly similar.

That's why it's a sequel and not a spin-off, of which Pokemon has numerous. (Pokemon Snap ftw)

It's a little late for me to comment on this article, but, @NaviFairy, that feature has been in the games for a really long time, it just hasn't been obvious. Pokemon's stat gains are based on the type of Pokemon they defeat, and the Pokemon they defeat are based on the area they train in. If you look online you can find big complicated guides that tell you which routes or caves you want to train in if you're trying to raise a specific stat or lower another stat.
