Video: Shoot 1UP Debut Trailer
Unlike a lot of people, I wasn't all that impressed with the Xbox 360 Indie Channel Weapon of Choice. It wasn't that it was bad, it's just that it felt like something I've played many times before and didn't bring a whole lot of new things to the table. Thankfully the debut trailer for Mommy's Best Games' follow-up, Shoot 1UP, looks anything but ordinary. The title takes the basic vertical shoot-em-up formula and lets you launch all of your ships at once for increased firepower. Who needs those tiny little support pods when you can get an actual fighter next to your ship? The trailer also shows of a clever "Ghost" power up that temporarily mirrors your collection of ships effectively doubling your numbers. We'll find out of this intriguing concept holds up when the game launches next month!

As an addendum to what Game-Boy said, I played a demo of an early build for the game and it's very promising. Almost every enemy drops a small orb, and when you collect the orb it turns into another ship, and thus another life. Enemy fire is everywhere, so those extra ships come in very handy. You can also fly to the edges of the screen, which condenses your cluster of ships into all of the ships stacked on top of each other so that it's easier to maneuver without losing lives, but this also takes away your advantage of having a wider firing radius from a cluster of ships. Lots of risk/reward scenarios. Can't wait for the full game's release.
