Child's Play Raises $1.7 Million in 2009

Child's Play, a charity that raises money to provide games to children in hospitals around the world, announced that it raised $1.7 million USD in 2009, beating its previous high.
The charity was created by the founders of Penny Arcade, and this amount represents both financial donations as well as items directly purchased on participating hospitals' Amazon wish lists. Since it was started in 2003, the charity has raised almost 7 million for needy children.
Gamasutra has a statement from their foundation coordinator, Kristin Lindsay, saying:
"Every year we think we've peaked, but each new year we get thousands of new gamers pitching in, coming up with their own events to raise funds.""At a time when most charities are struggling to get traditional donors to contribute, we've found that gamers are second to none in their willingness to donate their time and money to a worthy cause."
