Greenpeace Releases Its Rankings

Greenpeace has once again released its rankings of environmentally friendly electronics manufacturers. Among the list are a number of PC developers and all our favorite console makers. Coming as no surprise, Nintendo once again heads the bottom of the list, as it never releases its information regarding its environmental or chemical policies.
Explaining how they derive the score, Greenpeace's website explains:
The ranking criteria reflect the demands of the Toxic Tech campaign to the electronics companies. Our three demands are that companies should:
- Clean up their products by eliminating hazardous substances.
- Takeback and recycle their products responsibly once they become obsolete.
- Reduce the climate impacts of their operations and products.
Of the companies about whom we speak more often, Sony and Apple come in at eighth and ninth place respectively. Sony is cited for better a better chemicals and waste policy, whereas Apple scores highest in the toxic chemicals criteria. This information is all garnered from published reports on the companies' own websites, but each company has a listed kudos and areas of improvement on the Greenpeace website explicating the companies' scores further.
