Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Shooters Announced!

tvcallshooters01.jpg
What's better than getting one of the slickest-looking fighting games in 3D on your Wii? Getting a bonus, expanded version of a 2D, Commando-style shooter featuring some of those same characters with it, for free! What's even better than that?! Pie.

But while there is no pie included with Capcom's upcoming Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars, the shooter thing is actually coming along quite nicely, according to Capcom Unity. Featuring Ryu and PTX-40A from Capcom, alongside Ken the Eagle and Tekkaman from Tatsunoko, this top-down scrolling shooter takes place on the ever-popular Lost Planet, with the mashup team taking on waves of Akrid bugs in a fashion that's likely to make fans of classic shmups quite happy.

The reason behind the sudden announcement is actually well-established: when games are released in Japan, they usually get a second wind in the form of an 'International Mix,' since, while the translators were doing their thing, the actual developers were busy adding stuff. In the case of TvC: Ultimate All-Stars, they were tweaking game balance, adding new characters like Frank West and Zero, and taking a look at the slew of character-themed minigames that came with the original TvC. In the end, they chose to flesh out one of these minigames into what's now included on the disc as Ultimate All-Shooters.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is still scheduled to tag-team the U.S. on January 26 and Europe on the 29th; Japanese gamers will get the first opportunity to have their hands on the Ultimate All-Stars version around this time as well.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, the Shooter

Gamers may get more than they bargained for when they pick up their copy of Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars this month.

TvC: Ultimate All-Stars is basically the uber-version of the Japan-only Tatsunoko Vs Capcom: Cross-Generation of Heroes. It adds more characters, tunes the balance, and gives the whole glorious package worldwide online versus play. Niitsuma and the team also went back to the drawing board on the collection of zany mini-games from the original, and have transformed one of the best of the bunch into a robust game worthy of a download unto itself. TvC: Ultimate All-Shooters is a 2D shoot-em-up in the style of past Capcom classics as "Legendary Wings" and "Commando." It takes place on the snow-covered wastelands of Lost Planet, and pits you against hordes of hungry Akrid bugs.
