Bayonetta Soars High In Sales And Mass Appeal

Ok. So it turns out the game whose release I most lamented this year (tongue in cheek of course) has me eating crow. Its perplexing albeit sexy narrative and mostly borrowed mechanics have definitely turned some heads. Apparently some didn't mind the chaotic masterpiece that fleshed out Bayonetta's battle system or the plodding camera that demanded constant adjustment because it sold over one million copies on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 combined!

Now, I've played Bayonetta on both platforms and enjoyed it for the most part. However the visual experience was unique on each console, which is common for some games that go multiplatform, but to such an odious degree? To allow for such a bold contrast in frame rate and graphical fidelity from the slicker Xbox version to the choppy PS3 is baffling and sends a confusing message to consumers. This could be considered sloppy, especially with an IP as quirky as this one. Blended with the pulp-fantastic story, and uneven mechanics has me likening the whole experience to the digital gaming equivalent of Leonardo DaVinci's: The Mona Lisa: The joke is on us!

Surprisingly, it was not even Sega's top selling game in its 3rd fiscal quarter. The award for that manages to mystify me even further with Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games pulling in just under 6 million copies worldwide for the Wii and the DS.! Thank you Sega for once again alluring the masses with your pop-icons new and old. We look forward to an interesting year!

Though i haven't played Bayonetta on the 360 since E3, i have played it on the PS3 in its Demo and Retail iterations. I can honestly say that what's currently on the PS3 is much improved from the Demo.

Being able to install the game is a nice perk as well!

With sexy art like that, it's no wonder the game's a success. :)

was the recent patch for the PS3 version to correct the frame rate or no? if it was, did it do its job?

This game was a pleasant suprize on multiple levels. Fun, interesting player character? Check. Great graphics and gameplay? Check. Interesting world? Check. I rented it on a whim and quite literally lost an entire weekend. Hard to put this one down, and seriously hope for more.
