Diablo 3's Not-Red Sonja
It appears Diablo 3's team is content offering us small tidbits over the coming weeks, this week's information being the concept art for the female barbarian. Like her monk sister in arms, she's actually competently dressed. It is also becoming apparent, though some people are annoyed by this fact, that the same visual team that made Diablo 2 is not wholly present (think of the sorceress, amazon, and assassin, and remember their base clothing).
While this female barbarian is wearing a bra, she looks much burlier than is normally safe for a 'sexy' woman. Red Sonja in a chainmail bikini she is not. In fact, it's almost hard to believe this comes from the same company that has put out World of Warcraft, who sometimes gets it right, and just as often seems to get it wrong.
When Blizzard announced that they would be allowing each class to play as either sex, my mother and I had a small cheer as we came to the realization that our spellcasters would no longer look the same. At the same instant, we began wondering how sexualized these women would be, how waifish; we are both happy to see (along with many other people, I'm sure) strong women in clothing and musculature that seems suited to their roles.
Also of interest is how this smaller info keeps being released, and hopefully we'll soon also have the female witch doctor and male wizard (likely my first class, so I'd like to see how he looks). Hopefully they're working up toward some bigger announcements?

I'm glad the other characters don't look like WoW refugees...
As a long time D\D2 fan I have to say I hated the earlier character releases. The witchdoctor looked a green drag queen which, screenshots suggest, is how most WoW characters look.

I'll probably play the female version but the male certainly looks rather nice.
I have no idea why people are complaining about this barbarian's look. She looks like she can pack a punch... with a punch! I like her!
I'm officially in love with this barbarian woman. She has unseated King from King of Fighters as my ultimate video game dream girl, and she can pound me into paste with that massive meat fist any day! *swoon*
Also, I think it's just adorable that you and your mom play video games together, vorpalbunny!
Red Sonia homages aside, I think its a good character design. I've never really played around w/ Diablo, but these sketches make me more inclined...
Looks exactly like one of my dream women. I love a vicious lady in armor. Extremely highly approved!
I like that they changed the look of the characters. no more skanky strippers!
