Red Eagle's Wheel Of Time Receives Help

Eye of the World; how many times have I started you?

Red Eagle Games will be working on the game adaptations of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, with the help of Obsidian Entertainment. The latter studio should ring a bell, as they're the ones responsible for the teased Fallout: New Vegas, Knights of the Old Republic II, and the upcoming Alpha Protocol.

Red Eagle COO, Larry Mondragon states, "Although Red Eagle Games is both a game producer and publisher, as a new company, we quickly recognized that we could benefit from supplementing small in-house technical and creative teams with a proven third-party developer."

Considering Obsidian Entertainment's résumé and its team consisting of many veterans of the original Fallout games, we may finally see an RPG made out of Jordan's works that do the books justice.

As for Red Eagle itself, it appears it was created in 2008 expressly to work on Jordan's properties, in both films and games.

Any Wheel of Time fans among our readers? What's your take on it?

I'm terrified, basically. Hopeful, of course, but terrified... My mind is still contaminated from the -last- Wheel of Time game...*shudders at the memory of a WoT FPS*

SEXCITED!

I've just started re-reading the series again to catch up on the latest installment. And toadally hopeful that it will be amazing.

It will be a difficult property to do well.
I don't envy the producers. If they stay too close to the source they will alienate those who aren't as familiar; too far and the core audience may pass it by.

That said I would love to take on the role of Nynaeve in a well made game. Here's hoping they do it right!

I'm really excited for this. I heard about it on Dragonmount last night. I think this has some really great potential. If Bethesda trusts these people with Fallout then I think WoT will be in good hands.

I, too, remember the Wheel of Time FPS game from about 1999/2000-ish. To say it was awful would be an understatement ("Blood and Ashes!" yells the Whitecloak Captain.)

I am understandably pessimistic.

Hmm, I don't really like to be a cynic. But so much could go wrong here. As people have already mentioned, the previous game sucked giant monkey balls. But I guess one can only wait and see.

And if they are making movies out of the books, I really do hope they wont cast major celebs into it. I would rather see a all new cast that people don't have previous conceptions of.

Oh, Light, this again?

Please at least make it fit the story.
I don't even know what was going on last time.

At least it will have better graphics this time.

Made in 08 huh? I guess they got together specifically for this game, and have been working on it? There haven't been any other WoT projects that I know of....

Wow, am I the only one that liked the FPS Wheel of Time game?

As a representation of the world and the book series it wasn't great, but the mechanics were solid. It reminded me pleasantly of Hexen, and featuring a female lead in a FPS was an unusual choice at the time.

Anyway, this news really really excites me!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
