Video: Japanese DSiWare Title Innovates 3D On The Cheap
Forget your newly-fangled 3D TVs or stereoscopic headsets! Japanese developer Good-Feel Inc. is showing off a brand new technology which will put 3D gaming back on the right track. The cost? 500 DSiWare points for the title Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda, or Hidden 3D Image: There It Is!
Basically, rather than using expensive and/or embarrassing goggles, glasses, or lenses to make an image "pop" out of the screen at you, this game leverages the camera on the back of the DSi to seemingly add depth behind the system's screens, which is revealed when you tilt the system in any direction.
It may not sound like much in text, but this is one of those things you must see to believe. Even if you only have a few seconds, check out the video and prepare to have your mind blown by one of the only titles so far that makes me feel good about investing in that DSi. It releases next week in Japan, but for now we can only hope for localization.
The implications here are pretty far-reaching, but the thing I immediately want to see is a Paper Mario game that uses natural tilting as an occasional mechanic. What would you like to see using this technology?
