Fable 3 Lets You Impregnate Friends, If That's What You're Into

Fable III pregnant.JPG

In the latest issue of The Official Xbox Magazine UK there is a nice 6-page spread of new information about Fable 3. And while news about new features, new combat mechanics, and the return of the map are well and good, there is one new feature that seems to stick out. Those of you that thought Fable 2's co-op was a little lacking have been answered in an unexpected way: you and your friends can now impregnate each other in co-op through the magic of Xbox Live.

"You and your friend can rule Albion as king and queen. What's more, the team seems committed to ensuring the experience is in no way compromised. You'll be able to enjoy, ahem, intimate moments with your co-op friend and eventually produce offspring together. But what about absentee parents? Well, just as AI characters have relationships with the host, they'll also have relationships with the visiting player as well. If you don't spend enough time playing with the sprogs, your relationship will suffer."

While this is an interesting, wonderful, and potentially creepy (which only makes it more wonderful) addition to the co-op experience in Fable 3, I can't help but notice one of my biggest concerns about the game resurfacing here. Where are the same sex-relationships that for me, and I'm sure many of you, have been a major selling point for the Fable series so far? With the number of quality games already announced for this year, if Albion isn't laden with orphanages for an adoption alternative I can easily see Fable 3 falling off of my list of 'Must have' games. Ok, sure, there's the whole "you're the king" theme that brings heredity and the line of succession into the mix, which admittedly would be complicated by introducing adoption. Then again, if you're the king then you should be able to dictate the law regarding that sort of thing.

The article does also mention the option to become "business partners" with a co-op player, allowing you to share wealth and property. Suffice it to say, I'm still hoping for a proper co-King or co-Queen feature to allow for true same sex-relationships.

Of course, Molyneux hasn't explicitly said that same sex-relationships won't be making a return in Fable 3, and until he does I want to believe that they'll still work in the game's new direction. Considering how progressive Fable games have been in the past, it would be completely backwards to go hetero-only in the third installment. Even still, the constant emphasis on pregnancy and raising children in Fable 3 brings those first clouds of doubt into view. Hopefully Molyneux and Lionhead will have some good news on that front in the not so distant future.

They could even make it so that your rule is challenged if you put your character in a gay relationship and adopt an heir! That'd be fun.

Seriously, though... if you're a king your biggest priority is popping out an heir with your bloodline. Any adopted orphan would probably set off a civil war with nobles that had a better blood claim to the throne once you died.

Maybe they should use magic to impregnate your boyfriend! Haha, awww... I want to make my boyfriend play this with me then get him preggers.

6 pages and still no explanation on what happens with gay characters? So annoying.
It's starting to feel to me like they're leaving it to the very end stage of development with the intention of just throwing in some uninspired last-minute solution.

As for the offspring (if we do get it), I don't really like the idea of a simple adoption.
This is a world with magic, so I support the idea of some sort of magic-enabled birth.

I'd like to know how they are going to address bloodlines/heir issues, too. If adoption is good enough to carry on a bloodline/be sufficient for an heir to the legacy, then that should be fine enough (for me). :)

I'm alright with some form of mPreg or magic baby-creation, too. I'm just all for people getting what they want.

Or you could just have a wife and kids to secure the succession and then mess around with all the pretty men at court, a la Edward II of England.

May not be politically correct, but there's definitely a bit of a precedent for it in our world's history. A king is a government body whose primary task is to secure the succession, even if doing so does not fit his own desires.

Though, this is obviously a fantasy world, so real world trends shouldn't necessarily be expressed. I guess I'll be fine with whatever they decide to do, in the end.

Finally I can be the dead beat Dad I've always wanted to be - but virtually. I plan to spread my seed to all my Xbox Live friends. I'm such a whore.

Personally I think all games should include gay relationship options and include baby adoptions.

I loved that Dragon Age had that option but I was so mad that I could have girl on girl sex with Morrigan. She was hot and I liked her way more than the other chick who had the gay relationship option.

Alistair was sexy as hell too but he wouldn't opt for a gay relationship either. What gives? Maybe not all gay men are into tiny fem assassins and want a hunky Grey Warden to keep them warm at night. The designers should have kept all the romances open.

Heck, all games should make any character open to gay relationships as long as you play the dialog right. I was mad I had play a guy to get the girl I wanted.

That's the beauty of DAO. At least if you have the PC version.
You can mod it to get past all those annoying limitations.

I'm gonna gay romance Alistair. And I even got a hotter skin for Zevran (though I wasn't too bothered by his original appearance).
Hell I even got this neat mod that makes a Human Noble origin NPC a romancable partymember.
Not to mention the improved sexscenes and bodies.

DAO has awakened (pun intended) my inner perv. XD

What about surrogacy instead of adoption?

I'm sorry, but I'm gay. Not bi.
If I wanted to get a woman pregnant, there would be no need to ask how the heir system would work for gay people.

No homosexuality?! I'm so disapointed! Being able to transfer my own sexual identity into this game has been one of my favorite parts of Fable! Darn... now I'm going to have to play as a male to court my desired sex. Such an annoyance... I hope Lionhead decides to scratch that idea!

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
