Hands On With Mod Nation Racers PSP

Last week I attended a Fat Princess: Fistfull of Cake event and was delighted to find some other games on display as well, namely ModNation Racers for the PSP. Through a series of unfortunate events, I was unable to join the beta of the PS3 version of the game so I jumped at the chance to check out the PSP version.
My time with ModNation Racers PSP was rather brief, but I was able to play enough to know that this will be a day of launch purchase for me. The characters were great and the vehicles even better. I chose a bi-plane from amongst the large and rather impressive assortment of transportations and a driver with a little hat and goggles. All the things you would want and expect from a kart game were there: fun powerups, loads of vehicles and a series of terrific tracks that ran the gamut from fairly simple to mind twisting.
Being a customization freak, I really wanted to get my hands in and start messing with the creation aspects, but time constraints and a long line of people behind me waiting to try the game conspired to leave me out in the cold in that respect. Still, it definitely made me think about how gamers will take this title and make it their own much as they did with LittleBigPlanet. I can't wait to see what people start coming up with once ModNation mania is in full swing, which it surely will be very soon.
In the end, Sony has me right where they want me on this one. I'm hooked on the small amount of the game I've already seen and if the PSP version is this fun, I can only imagine what the full PS3 version will be like. The Create, Share, Play aspect of ModNation Racers will put it head and shoulders above most other kart racers and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see it rise up to become one of the top games on the PSP/PS3 this year. I smell awards in the offing.

Looks to be an awesome deal for the Sony gamers among you.
Makes me wish madly for such customization [especially a Track Mod] in the next Mario Kart and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing titles next gen too!
