For fans of Francis, Bill, Zoey and the ever popular Louis from the original Left 4 Dead; let the celebrations begin! This week Valve released The Passing, new dlc for Left 4 Dead 2 that creates a crossover event for the two groups of indomitable survivors. Set just after the events of Dead Center, you will have the opportunity to mingle with the original cast in a rural town in Georgia!

The Passing also introduces new events called "Mutations" that adds new twists to the Left 4 Dead mechanics. Each event will be weekly affairs and include modes such as "Realism Versus" and something called the "Chainsaw Massacre" which gives all players chainsaws with endless gasoline!

Valve, in its constant mission to take care of its fans will release a new Mutation each week, expanding gameplay and boosting playability. Currently there are over 20 Mutation Modes planned and they will be available across all Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns. Mutations will run for a week at a time and only be available to owners of The Passing.

The Passing also offers a new co-op challenge mode, support for the infected-bot play in Verses, the fallen survivor zombie class, the gold club as a melee weapon and the M-60 gun. It is now available for 560 Microsoft points, and is free for PC owners.

LEFT 4 DEAD 2 THE PASSING COMING APRIL 22
Game Add-On Brings L4D1 Survivors Down South
April 20, 2010 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress, and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced the first game add-on for its co-operative zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2 The Passing, is due for release Thursday, April 22 exclusively for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and the PC.
The first game add-on for Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2) brings the original Left 4 Dead (L4D1) Survivors down south for a meeting with the L4D2 cast, while delivering new single-player, multiplayer and co-operative gameplay for the PC and Xbox 360.

The Passing also introduces a series of weekly game mode events dubbed "Mutations." These week-long runs of new gameplay modes range from "Realism Versus" mode to "Chainsaw Massacre," which gives all players chainsaws with an unlimited supply of gasoline. There are over 20 Mutations planned, each playable on all L4D2 Campaigns. Mutations are exclusively available to owners of "The Passing" DLC.
In addition, "The Passing" offers a new co-operative challenge mode of play, support for infected bot play in Versus, a new "uncommon common" zombie class (the fallen survivor), melee weapon (golf club), and firearm (M-60).

Available for 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox 360 and free on the PC, "The Passing" takes place just after the Dead Center campaign of L4D2. Set in a small town in rural Georgia, players assume the role of the L4D2 Survivors as they meet with the L4D1 characters.

Not going to spoil who passes, but from what I've heard Nick isn't too popular amongst the original survivors. Ellis on the other hand, develops a powerful drooling crush on Zoey from the moment they meet. And Rochelle? Let's just say she and Francis bond over being cranky. :)

Well then that kills all those dreams of thousands of girls and guys who dreamed of Nick and Ellis being together lol That includes me

I'm so glad I'm part of the PC Master Race. I'd rather be forgotten by Microsoft than have to deal with their nickle and dimeing.

Not sure I'll be getting this.
The Mutations sound fun, but I'm loathe to pay for a forced straight relationship (however minor) for a character I'd really rather not be in one.

Even if Ellis is the happy go lucky obliviously gay guy... I don't think he and Nick have much in common besides being forced to work together. Of course, any port in a storm at the end of the world.... I hear the Survivors are leary of each other intially and gradually warm up.

-Rochlle and Zoey both being glad they aren't the last women on earth, for example

I think the character beats and dialouge make this a must have for me. I find I like the characters in the Left 4 Dead universe way more than a lot of others.

Anyone who's a fan of L4D2 should pick this up for the extra $7. It's relatively short (3 maps) on missions, but the new zombies (carrying extra goodies) are a nice change, the crossover into the old game (and new dialogue) is hilarious, but really, the "Mutations" are the key. Getting to try new ways to play the game over the next few months make it worth revisiting on a regular basis! Makes the game feel new and fresh again.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
