The Conduit 2

While it may seem like an April Fools' joke to some, I assure you I am not in the habit of celebrating this day in any form. Sega and High Voltage Software have confirmed they are working on a sequel to the critically mixed The Conduit. While the game was often praised for its technical innovations, and for showing that the FPS genre could fit well on the Wii, its plot and level design seemed to leave many people desiring a bit more.
According to High Voltage CEO Kerry Ganofsky, The Conduit sold over 350,000 copies. While it does not have the run away success of some party games on the Wii, perhaps High Voltage can fix some of the criticisms of the first title, and ship a more solid game. Whether or not the audience exists is something people will likely be pondering for some time, as this Gamasutra article seems to speculate solely on the type of audience the Wii may have. Talking to both Jason Vandenberghe, developer from Red Steel 2, and Eric Nofsinger, chief creative officer at High Voltage, there seems to be a positive note that if developers can stop pandering to Wii audiences, the audience will gladly pick up the game.
As for Conduit 2? Projected to launch this fall, for the Wii only, it promises the usual single-player and multiplayer options, building on the latter. Now there will exist a Team Invasion mode whereby four players can cooperatively kill aliens both locally and online. In following expected multiplayer FPS conventions, there will also be a class system for online player, by which one can customize his avatar.
Alongside the announcement, there is a sweepstakes slated to start tomorrow, which will be available at this website.
