Video: Xenoblade Shows A Slice Of RPG Heaven On Wii With New Trailer

FaePuck gave us our first glimpse of Xenoblade not too long ago, and now we have a new gorgeous trailer to show off more of the rich world Monolith is creating for their debut Wii RPG.

First thing first though: a clarification is in order. Contrary to what was originally believed, Xenoblade has nothing to do with past Xeno games Xenogears or Xenosaga. As Xenoblade director Tetsuya Takahashi put it in a Famitsu interview, "the world setting, story and other elements have no relation." Instead he thinks of the "Xeno" name as a marker of quality, rather than a unifying series, something Final Fantasy fans should be quite familiar with. This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise since the original title for the game was Monado: The Beginning of the World and was only changed to Xenoblade fairly recently, but for fans of the Xeno series this may be a pretty hefty blow.

But even as a stand alone JRPG, Xenoblade still looks fantastic. The two giant figures shown fighting in the trailer are the gods of the Xenoblade world, and the entire game world literally takes place on their bodies. The scale of Xenoblade is impressive, and this new trailer does an excellent job of highlighting just how huge the world will be. With JRPGs like Arc Rise Fantasia, The Last Story, and Xenoblade, the Wii might just become a little slice of RPG heaven for gamers.

Haha, that's pretty neat that the world consists of their two huge bodies. That made me chuckle, but I love the idea.

I haven't played Xenogears, but but my experience with Xenosaga was generally positive, so if this game is as good as those I just might start playing my Wii more often.

I don't think it "looks fantastic" at all. Aside from the obvious graphic issues, it looks nothing but a bunch of clichés so far.

This good god vs. evil god has been done so many times before that even the whole "their bodies form the land"-twist can't make it any more original. :/

you know it's nothing to scream about, because they're not willing to show actual gameplay footage in the trailer(s) .. that should be an immediate red flag for any (former) final fantasy fans.
