De Blob: The Underground

With a tag line that reads 'Reenergizing the Rainbow Revolution,' the sequel to de Blob adds a colon and 'The Underground,' promising many more additions: new moves, opponents, 2D platforming segments, and two-player action. For those of us who not only see de Blob as a fun title available on the Wii, but a declaration against many of the more blandly colored titles available everywhere, this is delightful news.
de Blob was one of those Wii titles I really enjoyed, though it had the baffling design decision to map jumping to the Wiimote waggle, which caused a few moments of consternation. It had an amusing storyline that never took itself too seriously, fun mechanics (excepting the aforementioned jump waggling), and a chance to just play with colors like an excited child given crayons or watercolors.
The segment that appears in Nintendo Power seems to indicate something a bit more, as it mentions "the Wii version of de Blob: The Underground." We can expect a DS version, which would make sense given its stylus and the ability to mix colors and painting mechanic.
Storywise, and for making sense of the two-player promises, Blob will be followed by a robot named Pinky. Comrade Black returns as Papa Blanc, once again evoking images of colorlessness equating to dictatorial control. From the Nintendo Power page, it also appears all the old companions will return to guide Blob in his revolutionary color attacks.
The travel, exploration, and painting of Prism City will occur come spring of next year.
