Final Fantasy IX Confirmed For PSN

ffix.jpg

With Final Fantasy VII and VIII being available on the PlayStation Network, it seemed a no-brainer for the next game in the series to follow suit, and sure enough, Sony has now confirmed that Final Fantasy IX will soon be playable on your PlayStation 3 and/or PSP. Unfortunately, that's really all they've got to say for themselves at this point. The closest they're getting to a release date is to say "will soon be available." Oh, and they also mention it's just for North America. Sorry!

Oh hey, I also skipped FF VIII and IX, going right from VII to X on the PS2. Did I miss anything there that I should maybe check out?

Nine is easily my favourite Final Fantasy, and barring Metal Gear Solid 3, the game that made me cry the hardest at the end. I can't wait to pick this up for my PSP when it's released. :3

I liked Final Fantasy IX but I just couldn't get into it to the same extent as some of the others in the series. For one thing, the battles just seem to be really slow compared to the other games. And I didn't relate to the characters, other than Vivi, very well. But it's neat to see the game available through another venue.

If you liked the classic Final Fantasy games you'll love FFIX. It's one of my favourites and makes gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to play it.

they better release it in Australia as well!!!!!

You skipped VIII???
Play. VIII.

There are people who will tell you that VIII is not the best Final Fantasy. Those people are wrong.

;-P

You skipped two games that are better than VII in pretty much every way. Play them.

Got pretty far into the third disc, before being taken down by a scratch.

Does anyone know if downloaded PSX games work with save games from disc PSX games? I'd buy it just to finish off the game.

IX is one of the greatest Final Fantasies made! Not to mention Hironobu Sakaguchi(the creator of final fantasy)'s favorite game. It is by far my favorite plot, and my favorite villain.

You only missed the two greatest games in the whole FRANCHISE.

PLAY THEM. DO IT. NOW.

You're not trying to bait the rabid FF fans with your woeful lack of experience, are you?

FF VIII is definitely worth a look, FF IX if you have the time.

Nate said:

Yes you can transfer save files from the disc based version.

Nine is great! It definitely has the feel of the older FFs. The characters are all unique and memorable. You have control over how the characters progress with the AP system, but they each still have their niche role. The cinematics are stunning and the game as a whole is just very polished!

While 8 and 9 both have unique quirks in skill growth (VIII forces you to bind spells to stats and IX makes you learn skills from items a la FFTA) they both have epic stories and cinematics that should be experienced at least once in every RPG gamer's lifetime.

VIII was a good game. IX was an AMAZING game, it is my favorite in the series by far. Only two games have managed to make me cry, the first was FFIX. (The second was Okami.)

Carl said:

FFIX is my absolute favorite in the entire series! The whole "mechanical/futuristic" thing with FF is getting kind of bland - give me a rich fantasy world like in IX any day!

The characters are the most likable, the plot flows nicely, the world is a wonderful fusion of new and old, and most importantly - MOOGLES! MOOOOOOGLES!

9 is worth playing. 8 is okay if you can ignore the attempts at a story that felt written by a 4th grade class as a school project, where a different kid does each next part.

They got to the point where they would toss in things like "Oh, summons make us forget!" to excuse EVERY CHARACTER YOU EVER MEET HAVING GROWN UP WITH YOU AS A CHILD BUT SOMEHOW NO ONE EVER REALIZING OR TALKING ABOUT IT. Freaking really. That is ridiculous. It isn't even important, it is just random "what" moments where the lack of planning for this game was obvious. The game is freaking full of facepalms. The only thing they seem to have spent time on is the cutscenes.

Yawn. FF8 haters are a sad bunch.

Anyway, FF9 was a good game (even though I dislike Zidane almost as much as Tidus).
FF8 on the other hand is one of the best Final Fantasy games they've made so far. Great characters, amazing story, fantastic battle system (though the Draw-system isn't for everybody).
You really should play it. It's almost a crime not too. ;P

JD said:

More support of XIII - it has easily the best cinematics of any PS FF. Also, it is one of the few where the main character is a legit badass instead of a whiny bitch ("I'm Cloud, I don't remember who I aaaaaam" "I'm Tidus and I want my DAAAAADDY" "I'm Hope and I miss my MOOOOOOMMY").

Basically, you can ask ten different Final Fantasy fans what the worst and best entries of the series are, and get ten completely different answers. Simple fact of life.

The games had high critical acclaim, sold a lot of copies, and are classics in their own right. On that merit, you should check them out. Asking advice from Final Fantasy fans about which games are best is an excercise in complete futility.

But if you're just trying to get dialouge going on the comments page, I'll bite! FF8 is in my top three favourits in the series (4 and 12 being my other 2). I found it super compelling and really different from all the others, and I really enjoyed the love story and the way the characters felt like normal, real people.

I also really, really enjoyed 9, though it suffered a bit from most of the characters being relegated to the background while three standouts took point on everything.

But the three games in the series that get the MOST acclaim, 6, 7, and 10, are my three least favourites, so, shrug. My opinion may not hold a lot of weight.

Play FFIX.

Have a nice day!

How was Cloud a whinier bitch than Squall? IMO they were both introverted emo boys. Zidane actually was vocal in the storyline (albeit kinda annoying) but definitely should more personality of all the FF men. And YES! this would be my 2nd favorite behind FF6

Nexus said:

You don't need to talk (and in the proces make an ass of yourself) to show personality. Personality is as much about how you behave as what you say.

Calling a silent protagonist whiny is a bit ridiculous though.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
