Liberal Support For Video Game Industry Tax Relief In The U.K
I will offer help to the computer games sector, similar to the steps which are helping restore the fortunes of the British film industry," Darling told MPs in his budget speech. "This is a highly successful and growing industry, with half its sales coming from exports, and we need to keep British talent in this country.
The implementation of such a program seemed unlikely if their was to be a change in government in the near future. The plans have yet to get underway but this week the Liberal Democrats of the U.K provided vocal support of the Games Tax Relief. Dan Forster, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport stated:
Liberal Democrats support the introduction of a Games Tax Relief. Following consultation on the details, we would implement the Relief as soon as possible.
In addition TIGA, the U.K's video game industry representative added:
TIGA welcomes the Liberal Democrats' commitment to support Games Tax Relief and to enact this tax measure as quickly as possible. There is a growing cross party consensus that Games Tax Relief is good for the UK development sector, good for the UK games industry, and good for the UK economy.
This plan will hopefully go through to help those in the industry to continue to produce quality games and provide the talented game design elite with the ability to do their jobs to the fullest.

This might be a bit hard to compete with Montreal, since the city already has large tax breaks for gaming companies. Most studios/publishers have offices here and in turn businesses that support them have also opened up.
It is a good boost to a city.
